whether you put advertisement on the side or not if you use it for commercial purposes (i.e. pulling your mowing equipment) then you are suposed to have comm. tags.

:usflag: Look at the other landscapers tags in your area. That will give you an idea as to how the laws work there!!:usflag:

in ohio, if you use your vehical to make money, you must have commercial plates on the vehical and trailor...... its not that much more, but the tickets will pile up soon if you dont.....

It took me a lot of me a lot of money in the first couple of months to keep my business going. I didn't plan on making profits, until 6 months. How's the new business working for you gman?

A friend of mine purchased a second truck and put lettering on it before he got his commercial plates and got pulled over immediately. I think he said the fine was $390.00 the cop didn't even let him off with a warning. He is a legitimate business man/LCO for 20 years now. He warned me to get the plates then the lettering so I did!
Funny they don't seem to bother people pulling trailers with un-lettered trucks and standard plates.... If they did it would cut down on all the illegal operators...

Are the commercial plates more expensive?

Well I am certian that will vary State to State.
Let me tell you this... I just got the commercial plates on my truck and trailer about 3 weeks ago as I am new to the biz. Last Thursday a local cop followed me to one of my accounts and slowly looked over my truck-trailer. I am certian he was checking my plates, no doubt in my mind. In Ohio it is about a $390.00 fine for the truck alone!!!

Comm. Plates in Ohio cost me about $100.00 more than standard plates for my truck and about $40.00 more for my trailer. You can see it is a minimal charge when you compare it to the fine!!!!

The downside is you also need to inform your insurance company you are now driving a commercial vehicle.I am certain you will be in a big mess if you wreck and your insurance company finds that you are using the vehicle commercially. My truck insurance went up about $500.00 per year

I have liability insurance only so if you need full coverage it would be considerably more.

These expenses are what gets professional LCO's ticked off when they see all the Illegal-operators not playing by the same rules. illegal ops don't pay these expenses (that are required by law) then they go out and undercut professional rates, take customers and drive down the industry standards on professional mowing prices. :hammerhead: :nono:

I was illegal for about 3 weeks before I pulled the trigger and decided to take this biz serious. I was in the " do I want to do this phase".

Plus once your legal you get to decorate your truck!!!! If you need info on vinyl lettering I can hook you up my friend.

See ya!
