heres my problem. I am not getting fuel from the gas tank to the carb. I broke down the carb and cleaned it out since it was sitting for 4 years It has a mechinacal fuel pump between the tank and carb. when i take the fuel pump off the motor and pump the fuel pump by hand it works but when it is bolted up to the motor it doesn;t get fuel to teh carb. This machine has been sitting for 4 years. What do you gusy think? Let me know.

Sounds like the pump diaphragm is hard, It's working in your hand because you are giving it more stroke than the lobe does. Or it could be a worn lobe.

how would you test to see if it the diaphram or a lobe. Thanks

Thats what I had in my mind, You can remove the plug(s) then stick a standard screw driver into the pump hole touching the cam then rotate the engine by hand and watch how much movement you have on the handle.

There are no specs on this but you should get a good idea if it is moving enough to activate the pump.

Is this a M or MV, Single or twin ?

this is a single.

The above check will apply, I have seen a couple with worn lobes but I would lean toward the pump. You could take the pump apart just to check after you check the lobe but they no longer sell rebuild kits that I know of.

when i take the diaphram apart what do i look for: something broken, torn, scratched?. also how much do these pumps usually go for? thanks

A new pump is in the $70.00 range, The diaphragm should be soft and pliable not hard and stiff.
