Hi All,

I need to restore my yard! I know I need to thatch, aerate, and seed. Since, I'm located in Indy. Which order would be best, and when should I start? I just purchased a Lesco DropSpreader, with Lesco 50lb bag of Sunny seeds, and lesco starter fertilizer. I used Roundup to clear most of my weeds, but I still have the grassy type weeds in my yard. Is it too late to use a liquid fertilizer to get rid of the grassy weeds, or should I just wait until spring? Since using roundup, I have no dandelions, which is a first!

Is there anything else that I need to do, to help have a successful growth of new seeds? Should I also get some topsoil for my rock hard clay? If so what kind of ingredients should be included?

What's the weather been like there? Any rain lately or in the forecast? Fert is usually applied in the fall or early spring.

Its been hot 93-95 degrees, and dry. Just last week we received rain for about 2 days, and this week it has cooled off. My yard is starting to wake up, and I'm seeing weeks creeping back up again.

My yard looks the same. I am going to give a thatch, then I am going to aerate, seed and just put down a starter fert.

My back yard is rock hard clay. If I were to get some top soil, what ingredients should be included in the soil to help the seeds germinate, and help my clay soil?

Thanks.

Should thatching be done when the soil is dry? I know aerating should be done when the soil is moist to help penetration.
