I know this has been discussed alot lately, however no one has answered the questoned I have. I am in north Mississippi and the red clay ground here is so hard a pick will bounce. How would you areate this hard of ground?
Thanks guys.

It would have to be moist soil, in any type of soil, for a "core type" aerator to work. If it's as hard as concrete and there's no means of irrigation, and no RAIN on the horizion, you are pretty much out of luck.

On a side note.. take a look at the aeravator machines. they attach to grasshopper mowers and they also have 'stand-alone" tow behind units. They claim that hard ground is actually better for those machines than wet. http://www.1stproducts.com/2007/index.php?content=aeravator
