Help with electric start.

I recently purchased a (sv470-0111) Kohler Courage 15 hp electric start engine for my bobcat 48 w/b. I am having some problems getting it to start and was wondering if any one could help. Do I have to connect the battery to any thing other than the starter and fuel solenoid to get the coil to produce spark? I have the Kohler service manual but on my engine there is a extra thing that looks like a relay and it reads "coil 12 vdc". This does not appear in the wiring diagram that I received in the Kohler service manual. I'm not sure what it does or if it needs voltage to help produce spark. Any help would be greatly appreicated.

Where on the engine is it located?

I don't see anything else required to get spark. Have you actually checked for spark?
Could the relay be to an electric fuel pump?
