Hi everyone, I have a dirt backyard in Kingsburg, CA that has a lot of shade (large tree). What's the best type of grass to use? Sod or seed? No little kids, just one black lab. Also, I have a palm tree that doesn't belong; anyone in the area deal with them?
Thanks / Dan

Your outside of Fresno. Go with a fescue blue grass/RTF sod lawn. Don't know the condition of the soil so I can't comment on that. Keep the lab off the yard (take it for walks so he/she can do it's business in your neighbors yarsd -lol.) for at 2 weeks. Water 3 times a day for 5 minutes a pop.

Hey Carlos, is the fescue blue grass good for shady areas? I plan to take down a palm and thin out a hackberry tree to give more sun - still a lot of shade though...

I agree on the Fescue/Blue Mix. Depending on the level of shade and how destructive the dog is, you may need a yearly over seed to keep it looking good.
