Overseeding is the process of applying seed over an existing lawn.
As opposed to seeding a new lawn.
The main differences are the application rates, as a rule overseeding requires half the seed of bringing in a new lawn.
Current recommendations run 50 pounds per 1/4 acre for overseeding, 100 pounds for bringing in new turf.
That's 200 pounds per acre (400 for new lawns / ac).

Aerating is a lot more involved, yes you'll want to google that.
And do me a favor, get into CORE aeration please never spike a lawn

core aeration is pulling the plugs from the lawn

Is overseeding very popular or do we (as owners) have to suggest things like this most of the time when there is dead/no grass?
Is it as simple as spreading it equally throughout the lawn or is there more to it?
