I was wondering this because of the Tru-green accident. It seemed very serious because they had to close down a school. that could make someone go out of business.

I do the same and usually put the weed control in a tip and pour, so there is nothing that needs to be rinsed out.

Every so often, I'll run out of spray product (trees/lawn). So maybe 2 or 3 times a year, I will ask the homeowner if I can borrow 10 or 20 gallons of water from their hose. They always say yes, as they realize I can take care of their pest problem right on the spot. They appreciate the prompt service, and I usually give them a price break as well. It's a win/win deal, and most customers realize I'm trying to help them.
My other eight guys don't this, but I do the "specialty jobs", so once in a while I run low on product. I carry as many as 8 different products in my spray truck. Split tanks plus several backpack sprayers, plus concenterates.
"Do most of you guys fill up at a customer's home" = Yes.....once in a great while.

I too only carry water in my tender tank.... but do carry 2.5's of Three Way.
Tip and pour?
Can you tell me more?
I carry my Three Way in 2.5's and hate using them! It drips when I pour sometimes and makes a mess (inside the bed of my truck)!
Does anyone have a better way of carrying and mixing Three Way?

Why didn't I think of that? I'm running a spray rig with two different concentrations of the same product. I mix the nurse tank for the lower concentration of the hose tanks. When I fill the spray shield tank I have to add more chemical to bring it up to where it needs to be.
It wouldn't be that much work to mix each tankful as needed. That way I wouldn't have to freak out if the nurse tank sprang a leak.
One day I was towing a 1500 gallon water trailer. Straight water just to water some trees. The plastic tank split open and hosed down a bunch of cars. People were getting excited because they didn't know it was just water. Looking back it was darn funny but that could have just as easily been the nurse tank full of chemical.

I carry about 15 (I think) of the 2.5 gal. jugs, and fill them up with water (removed labels). This works well with refilling the PG, and for rinsing out the measuring cup and such.

Our newsletter says that we sometimes need to fill with the customer's water, (8 gal for PG Ultra).
Sometimes we refill The PG with the water from our big tank which has fertilizer and weedo in it. We learned to filter it by running it through a very fine brass coffee filter. We add the usual amount of weedo to our PG tank (about 40 ounces), because the weedo from the big tank is so dilute it is almost insignificant.
We carry a 2.5 of weed killer on truck. And a measuring bucket.
I am thinking--(bad)--if the 2.5 jugs were marked with ounces on the jug 320 ounces). I wouldn't need a measuring bucket--just subtract what you need from what you have--and pour. I would need to print tall skinny sticky labels with ounces printed on them and stick them to each jug.
Which reminds me. We rigged up an internal measuring jug inside the tank on the 400 gal big tank. No measuring bucket needed. Fill the internal bucket to proper pints--pull the cord to tip it into the solution.

i'm almost positive you know what a tip and pour is:)
i bought some 1 gallon tip and pours from lesco, one has 3-way, the other holds glyphosate!
the tip and pour has a measuring device built in that goes to 6 ounces, you "tip" the gallon jug and measure out what you need, then you "pour" the measured product!
i don't know how to post pics, so i'm sure someone will help out with a visual!
i bought two of these 7 gallon containers, used for clean water while camping, that have nozzles built in, i use these as nurse tanks for my backpack mixing, or sometimes for hand rinsing:) if i need to fill one up during the day i just your their water, never heard any complaints, i feel better mixing at my truck for sure
cheers

Here is link to tip and pour.

Lesco also handles them but I couldn't find it on their website.
They are very handy. Ideal for adding weedo to hand sprayers and back packs. Suitable mainly for up to 6 ounces.

Gotcha!
Yes I have seen them before but didn't know what they were called.
I can see why that they would be good for adding small amounts of chem...but I have to add 50-64 oz of Three Way to my PG. What would be good for that?
I kinda use a Tip and Pour when I add Quick Silver I guess.

I use the water at the customer's property maybe 75% of the time - particularly on the tree spraying jobs -

If you use the tip and pour you can fill up the measurer more than once. For me i would rather do that than have to rinse a measuring cup. Guess it depends on what your using. If your using more than a gallon a day of product than the tip and pour more than likely wouldn't be feasible.

Some days I go though 3-5 gallon of Three Way!
Anyone got a good way to measure? I hate pouring my 2.5' s into a measuring device. There is always a possible chance to spill when measuring.

In advance into a windshield washer jug with a paint marker mark to the correct level for your sprayer. Be sure to label the container with the appropriate label for the pesticide that you are using. I know that MDA doesn't approve of unlabeled containers, and also don't put any pesticides into containers shaped like drink containers! Also these temporary containers should be rinsed and disposed of properly, at the end of the season, or when they get ratty looking.:waving:

I can't believe so many people fill at a customer's homes!! You don't think you ever dip the hose end into that pesticide foam...ever? Then little jimmy comes along after playing ball in the sandlot and gets a nice cool drink. Not good. Since it is not expressly stated by law that you can't (although you do have to have an anti-siphoning/backflow protection in place) I would think that as professionals you would realize how...well...unprofessional it is. Here comes the next regulation I am sure. Use your head guys!

I've only had to fill at a customers house once. Does standing there holding the hose above the fill opening count as anti backflow?

yeah, we fill at the customers home all the time and we ask them to provide the product for our mix as well.....then we ask them to spray the product while we take a nap on their hammock.
Actually, living on the east coast where the fishing industry is big we have learned from the fisherman. See, they never steam out to the Georgia Banks without making sure they have all their gear on board
