Has anyone through a dealer or otherwise seen this new 76" Walker deck. I am anxious to hear how it cuts, and performs. I have been concerned because my understanding is that it has four gearboxes and is pretty heavy. I think it will be available everywhere this coming year I just want to know if anyone has been around one of these first ones out.
If you have bring me up to speed. Is it loud, cut quality, etc?

Rodney,
The new size of the Walker deck is 74". I saw a picture of one in the last Walker Talk. It looks to be a MONSTER. I think running a deck that large and heavy on the front of a Walker you will adding alot of pressure on the machine which in turn will be more break downs and repairs. JMO though. I maybe all WET and it won't HURT your machine one bit. Just seems like ALOT of WEIGHT to be sticking out front.

Thanks Steve
You are right about the size......My mistake. I am just really wanting to know if this thing lives up to the talk about it. Looks good for golfcourses maybe. BTW They are fazing out the 54 also.
I am also anxious to see the Walk behinds come out.:blob3:

Don't know about the walker wide deck, but I bet it center scalps if it is that wide. My ground isn't that level. I like my JD 455's for the inclines and ditches and my chopper for the leveler areas. Can't wait for them to get the new deck I see on their web site going. I will be first in line.

I saw it at expo and it is a monster. Walker now has the largest deck in the industry but the ground speed isn't that great. I don't really see a need for a deck this big for a Walker. I like the GHS system and if I need a big deck I want it to go fast.
This is from a Walker owner.

Rodney,
I tried one a couple of weeks ago on a 26hp EFI, it's a nice unit.
It's a big S.O.B.....
We had a speed up kit on the mower and the deck kept up in tall fescue with morning dew.
I ordered one, hope to have it in a week or so, i'll bring it down and let you check it out.
the nice thing is the weight and width makes the Walker even more stable on hills.
I don't think it weighed any more than the 62" deck though.
I feel the same about the Walker W/B's can't wait to get one.
scottlawns: Congrats, you'll love your Walker!
MD: it has anti scalp wheels mounted nicely on it, it did fine on the rough ground i used it on. I'm near you, give me a shout it you want to see it.

I would like to see Lastec adapt thier articulating deck to fit the Walker. They have one for JD. Its time.

 looks like they won't be available till spring......
oh well, it probably wouldn't cut snow well anyway.
Mike
Supposed to be priced comparable to the 62", we'll see!
Gene
That would make a nice addition to the Walker, heck put them in the "greens market" hmmmm...........
might have to look into that

I just traded in one of my Grasshopper mowers, the only brand of rider I have ever had, I love the cut of the Walker, i got the 48" GHS w/20hp, I'am now wanting to trade in my other Grasshopper for another Walker but I can not decide on a size. Both of my Hoppers were 725 w 52"flipup decks one was a bagger. I was thinking of a 62" Walker w/25hp. I cover alot of different grounds from oil field leases to nice ranches and just couldn't decide on a size. Maybe a 74"? Any ideas are helpful. Thanks

Nice big deck. Sopposedly weighs around 300lbs, comes with lever bar for manuevering. Suppose to be out in January or Feb from what the Walker booth told me. Would make a heck of a mower for a sports field. I currently use a 54 walker on a football and time wise it takes me about 12-15 minutes more than a 60 inch chopper. So i cant wait till it arrives next spring, i have th e25 Kohler Walker and i feel it will fit fine

Lastec claims Walker mowers are too small, weight and HP, for thier decks. A 421 would be real sweet.
tjg:
The 62" deck makes the Walker feel like a compleatly different machine compared to using a 48 GHS.

Try a 62", you'll be impressed! They are nice decks.
I've got a few 26hp EFI's, they have really performed well. Sure, you here of a few bugs, i've never had any problems.

Go with the new 26 EFI. There are far less problems with those mowers than with the 25's. Although I personally have not had any problems with either.
You will be blown away by the performance with a 62" cut. Most guys are suprised by even the 52". You can cover a lot of ground in a hurry. Either one will make you happy and price wise there is not much difference.
Just wanted to say thanks for all the replies on the deck size.
Dave or anyone just wanted to know more info on the 25hp compared to the 26 efi my dealer said it was 400.00 more for 26 efi. He did say it would take awhile for the 26 but had th 25 on hand. I am going to trade soon 10-05-01, will be getting the 62" deck. Any help will be nice thanks.

Go with the 26 hands down. Most of te distributors in the midwest are fazing out the 25 due to a few issolated problems with that engine. I have heard that Walker is fazing out the engine all together.
The biggest reason for the change is the fuel savings. You said you were quoted $500 higher.......if you put 500 hrs on your mower in a season you could put 1/2 your money back in your pocket. The 26 EFI burns 30-50% less gas compared to the old 25's.
Your dealer may want to unload that unit because the 25's are not selling well compared to the 26's. We love these new EFI's and so do all of the people I deal with. Knock on wood. Not one complaint here.

i wouldn't get a 25hp unless it was real cheap.
2002 the are replacing it with the Kohler 25hp Aegis liquid cooled.
