I bought the Lesco front mount spreader about 4 weeks ago... not knowing how I was going to mount it to my Lazer... I decided on the Spread 4 Mower mounting kit. It's a bolt on kit but the holes didn't line up in the middle of the frame so a friend welded it on for me tonite. He also welded about a 1 foot piece of 1 1/4" square tubing on to the spreader. I can't wait to try it out! What a time (and leg) saver it's going to be.
I have a question or two...
How far does this broadcast?
Obviously, I'm going to have to open this up more than the Lesco walk behind unit... What kind of settings are you using for Lesco products... Ferts and seed?
Thanks

This is where we learn about "fun with fertilizer". Get out the ice cube trays, and the scales.

Actually, he's about right when it comes to the scales and icecube trays. This is the best way to calibrate the spreader. You have to know your spread rate per speed rate, then stay within that realm. Many people just lay down cardboard, but I've heard of all different methods. I really don't think he was being fecicious.

Basically any low profile container will do. Spread them out across your path and weigh the material in each one. It will help you determine if you are heavier on one side.

I used beer/soda case bottoms when I calb. my lesco wb. I layed them long edge to long edge about 12 feet across. Put 2x4s on edge on both sides of drive to keep the scattering fert from entering the yard. I just bought a spiker to mount on my ferris . Probably a winter project. Need to rig speedometer to.

With a front mount and electric spinner you can simply turn it on and collect material in a box or tarp then weigh it. Find out your travel speed and effective width of spread and then you be able to calculate how much material should come out per unit of time.

I was looking for an approximate setting... something to go by. You know what I mean?
Cardboard, cookie sheets, ice trays, eggcartons, etc... seems like a lot of trouble.
Why not just measure out 1000 square feet, put 'X' lbs. of product in hopper and go at it?
Thanks

The trays are to check the distribution from right to left, just in case the delivery is skewed to one side. Don't know if it matters much, especially if you use slow release.

I know this is not the question you asked, but how are you goign to open and close the spreader? The way Lesco has it sucks. I used an old thottle cable with a spring on the end. The pull rope they have only work 1 out of 100 times so have fun.

LGF,
Yeah... the pull string kinda sucks. Do you have any details as to how you rigged your throttle cable?
You guys have a lot of product on the mower deck? I did today... I think I need to rig up a deflector shield too.

TSG,
I think that before you start messin' with the deflector shield you might want to check with Scotty in engineering because that is very dangerous work! :D :D LOL

PS. Please don't move this to the off topic forum...I promise to be good from now on.;)

What LESCO number setting do you use when spreading dylithium crystals?

I took off all the pull string stuff and mounted the throttle cable using the hole that is there. Then I put a smller sping on. Very easy and simple, just look at it and think, Im cutting out the rope stuff.
The sheild. just take a peice of rubber or sheet metal and mount on the back of the tube frame.
If you don't have the cable mounted in 2 minutes, email me and I can tell you how easyer with your discription of what your looking at.
