New blade design

I think that I finally made the perfect blade. After three years of experimenting with different blades and blade set-up I finally decided to make my own blades. I had about thirty old blades sitting around the shop so I started experimenting with them by weilding metal in different spots on the blades and I think that I have designed the the perfect blade. I have used it for the last week and it worked so good that I saved six man hours. I am presently looking into getting a patent for this blade design. I just could not believe how well the new blade threw the grass. Has anyone else redesigned something related to lawn care that has made your work easier and if so what was it.

Sounds great P&J, i dont suppose you'll include a pic so we can view this or is it in hiding until your patent is awarded? BTW are you welding with like 7018 or tool steel beings the blades are all hardened stell material, i would watch for safety issues welding your own blades. But congratulations on your blades and good luck with them.

I am very interested in letting some of the true professionals on this site demo these blades and once I secure the patent to them I will be sending them to some of you so that I can get a perspective on how they work on different mowers because every mower is different and what works on my mowers might not work on other mowers.

I would sure like to try them. I use 3 blades 20.5" with a 5/8" hole. I normally run a high lift and a blade the opposite of a Gator, the fins are twisted out, instead of in like a Gator.

Sounds like a good idea. My neighbor has been doing this for years, he does this to blades used on a brushhog, and has had no problems. I would think the blade tip speed is lower than with a commerecial mower. He told me to give him some of my old blades to try, but I was concerned about hitting objects,etc. so I have not done this. Good luck on your idea, this definetly sounds like a real good idea.:cool:

Congratulations on being willing to experiment - many people have the opinion that only the "factory" can design something - they forget that factories sometimes start in someone's garage. I have several ideas in the works but haven't put the plans into action.

Yes, I have invented and patented a product in the lawn mowing industry, and it has occured to me to put a banner (advertising) on this site, so if eric or someone with lawnsite.com could e-mail me I would appreciate some #'s as far as cost.
