Best fall time to top dress and overseed?

Hi,

I will be doing some seeding and topdressing this fall and im just wondering what the best time to do this is. Is middle of october going to be alright? We are still cutting quiet a bit and would prefer to do it when cutting has subsided. Any suggestions/ tips appreciated.

Best time is when soil temperatures are optimal for germination of whatever seed your using.

I agree with the soil temp regulation. We do best here from mid Auagust to mid September. October seed seldom survives until global warming hit full blown.

General rule of thumb is middle of August through end of September, weather permitting of course.

The idea here is mainly to get the seed sprouts mature enough to overwinter. 2-3 mowings, good fert practices, etc.

In your area and depending on size of job, type of job and geographical location [meaning, high wind area / flatland or protected, etc.]

A cover might be a worthy investment.
