I am 15 years old and my brother and I are starting our own business next year. We've got most of the equipment we need (except for a truck and a trailer obviously), but I was wondering if some of you guys could give me some advice on 21" and/or 36" lawnmowers. we will be doing mostly small residential yards (at least when we first start out). if you have any other advice for someone who is new to the business, feel free to give it. Thanks alot guys!

Try hitting search (http://www.lawnsite.com/search.php) and type in walkbehind and you will find 850 threads with that being in it.

BTW all Exmark here. Don't settle for less. Go with the best

Hi! The best advice I could give two guys, is to split lawn into front and back. Now buy two of the same mower. Why? Buy parts (blades, spark plugs, air filters,etc..) for one and it does for both. I think BEST PAIR (other than Becky's/ old girlfriend) are the John Deere JA-62 (2-speed self -by easy to replace belt, blade is a hybrid do-all mulch, bag, side plus every thing comes with it, aluminum deck) and is available at Home Depot or JD Dealer for $ 499.00. So for $ 1000.00 and change you have interchangable everything! Keep costs down without buying junk and you're into profit much quicker! Andy.

For the 36" try to find yourself a nice scag w/b belt drive, less headaches and cheaper to maintain and repair. For a 21 , why not a 32" w/b ? or if you can use them on your properties, go with a 32 and a 48, this way you can tackle larger jobs if the need arises and you can get into tight back yards with the 32 while your partner hits the front with the 48 and then can back up with the trimmer and blower while your still on the back .. Just an idea to think about.. I personally dont' have a use for the 21" mowers .. Actually I dont' even have one anymore .... Best of luck

ahh, have you not heard the praise of hustler around here? seems to me that hustler owners claim that hustlers are better than eXmarks,,;)

Now wait Viper. I can't say anything bad about Hustler. But I can say that more people around here run exmarks than hustler. A few good threads about Hustlers doesn't make them better. AND, just because you read a few things doesn't make the advice good.

36" Exmark would be a great starter. Cut is awesome and the quality is second to none. Exmark has great customer service and is always there to help. There is a reason why exmark is growing and spreading around the country faster than any other brand out there.

Depends on your local distributor. Here the $1999 price is still in effect for the Metro w/ Kohler. Ask your local dealer about the offer.

now wait a min viper . its not time to say better than yet.
im definitly impressed with hustler. but if i had a choice
of either new. id i do a lota homework before i decided ,couple others also considered. time will tell and im thinking its on hustlers side. unless the two companies want to just give me two,
to make a comparison. I PROMISE TO BE IMPARTIAL AND OBJECTIVE. and i would shore appreciat it too.
:) :D

Mowerconsultant I'm not saying their advice is not good, I'm saying Viper reading some threads doesn't make his advice good.

Vipermanz

Didn't you say you got rid of your customers.

And that you only had 2 lawns total to mow.

I would think that would not be enought to justify buying a commercial mower.

How would you know what an Exmark is like. You own a PUSH MOWER.

Don't Flame other mowers you do not own or use! You can flame your lawn boy or whatever you have, but stay away from the commecial mower. When you get one then you can speek from experience. Untill then don't recomend somthing you have not tried, or have.

LGF:blob1:

Disclaimer: I am not flaming Vipermanz. Someone can not recomend a mower, or flame it without have used or owning one. It is very upsetting to hear someone talk about something they don't have a clue about. Thanks all for reading

Viper: this is the first posting guide line:

(* Opinions that slam a manufacturer or product must be
backed up with facts! If you don't own or have not owned or operated a particular
piece of equipment or product your opinion is worthless and will not be expressed
at the expense of manufacturer slander.)

That's exactly what I was trying to say in my last post, but since it was found in the posting guide lines and was said better than the way I said it, I posted it for you.

So with that said what commercial mowers have you used, And what do you own?
