Hi everyone,

Is is too late to plant some small (3 gal.) japanese holly's in a customer's front landscaping bed? Any advice on planting them? Thanks!

It is a great time to plant them. Just make sure they are well watered in and continue to get watered as winter approaches.

make sure the hole is twice as wide as the root ball, plant at or a little above grade, tease roots before planting

Wear something exciting when you tease those roots. LOL.

I don't even know how to tease roots .

Thanks for the advice. What does teasing the roots mean?

On 1 gal pots, I will split the root ball into quarters at the bottom and rough up the sides to loosen the roots (eg. tease). On larger pots I will use a shovel to do essentially the same thing. If there is a mess of roots at the bottom of the pot, I shave them off.
