Which model you look at depends on the size of lawns you do. I like the 60" for what I do. They have a XW2303 which is the painted model 60" with a 23 Kohler, OCDC, the better seat and a Donaldson Turbo air filter.
The XW2500 is the stainless steel model with the OCDC, Donaldson, good seat, Coolers, and an Amsoil bypass filter.
The Honda engine is another option but it doesn't have the Amsoil filter or Donaldson Turbo air filter.
If you like diesel, I like mine so far, but it is a bit heavier. The gas models are about 950 lbs. and the diesel is around 1200 lbs.
I'm not sure what part of Chicago you are in, but there is a dealer in Crystal Lake too. I hope this helps.

Mowing Dentist,
The flex deck isn't your product by any chance is it. If I'm not mistaken the flex deck company is owned by a dentist in Iowa. If I'm wrong sorry but if I'm right please don't advertise your product on this site. That is what the paid banners are for at the top.

You have to read all the posts. Please read his post in this thread. He is trying to put up a banner.

Gravely is a signed up sponsor now too, but I haven't seen a banner yet, so please let us take care of who says what.

Thanks Eric, in fact monday I am going to email some pictures and let your people do the banner - I don't think the other ones are getting done very fast. It seems the people on these chat lines represent a nice cross section of the mowing industry, and have had a lot of experience doing what they do. For me it would appear that this site may be one of the better places to introduce any product involved in the lawn care industry.

The problem i have with the astro turf,is that the rear of it isnt secured,if you hop on the machine, wet or facing down hill, the rug will slide out from under you,you go down,or pull something trying to stand up,this hurts, big time.Ive had it happen 3 times since i bought mine,Im going to bolt the rear of the astro turf down soon. The height adjustment is terible IMO,I have no problems with the foot lift,it worked fine after i took off the little bracket that kept falling over the ratchet. The incriments are to far apart, simple as that.I have mine set to 2 1/2",now thats the lowest I mow in the spring, and fall. One notch up is 3 1/8,that is good for summer, but if the grass is reall thick,i raise it again, its now 3 3/4",this is too high about 1/2 of the time,Id like a 2 3/4"-to 3" setting,a 3 1/4,and a 3 1/2" in addition to what I have now.Right now Id like to drop my height to 3",but i cant, gotta go to 2 1/2",or 3 1/8.It doesnt look like it would be very hard to redesign the sprockets with finer teeth to get the incriments at least to 1/2",the 5/8 it has now is just to far apart.I could care less about the heights below 2 1/2",or above 3 3/4,I dont use them. But within that range it would be nice to have a few setting to choose from, instead of the one i have now in the summer. If i need a diferent height now,I have to add 1/4" spacers under the blades to get it,this is a PITA.Then i have to mow everything at that different height,or change the spacers on the road.

Eric,
I guess I thought there was a difference between buying banner time and promoting your product within the forum. I haven't seen any other paid advertiser promoting their product in the forum yet. Just seems kinda unfair for all the other manufactures out there that have paid to advertise on this site. Not trying to cause any problems just calling it like I see it.

I understand what your saying. I try to stay on top of this to keep money flowing into LS. I have already talked to Mowing Dentist and Chuck about this and the banner should be up soon.
Thanks for your concern, I do appreciate it.

Mowing Machine - I apologize if I appeared to be advertizing. I have emailed chuck with pics for banners and am starting a manufacturers forum. My problem is that the only mowers I have run for 9 years are different, and it is hard to be involved in conversations on a forum without stating what I run, and how I like it etc. Everyone else does. But I am with you, and in fact emailed eric some back that I am between a rock and a hard place, and at that time I stated I was going to start the process of banners and a possible product forum. I believe this forum has enough support and members, that the banners and product forum will be worth the cost. I think the general mood on this forum is open minded and honest and a good place to be. I am sorry if I offended anyone, and look forward to the future with all of you.

Mowing Dentist,
No offense taken. I just didn't know if you knew not to advertise in the forums. It's not fair for the companies that have paid to advertise at the top with banners. I know that it must be hard not to tell people about your product on the forum as well as all the other manufacturers. When you have something that you personally designed or sell you want to tell the world. Especially when you see a post that caters to your product. Good luck with your product and your new banner ad. I am sure a good number of members will be visiting your website.

Thanks mowingmachine. I am hoping my sponsor forum will be up today or tomorrow, and am looking forward to meeting a bunch of you people at the BBQ in Oct. 20
Went monday to look at choppers we purchased the 60 inch with the kohler and all the filters
they gave us a fair price on the old turf tiger,so that offset the high cost of the dixie chopper.I must say this is quite a machine
although the safty stuff takes some getting used to.
The cut on this machine is first rate and it has that rpm reader already on it .
thanks for all replys

Congrats odin.
If it has the tach/hour meter on it, it must be the XW2300 or XW2500 that you got then. In case your dealer didn't tell you to much about maintaining it, I put together a page on my site that could help you take care of it better. My dealer was excellent at teaching me how to take care of mine. :)
Check it out if you have time.
TLS
I meant to say tachometer but when a guy has worked 30 years in a auto plant all that noise and racket does something the your brain even 5 years after youve got your time in
ERIC
thanks i will read your site and it was xw 2500
they had a pretty good price on it due to lateness of the season.

Congrats Odin ,good luck with it.If iwere you,Id take a regular screwdriver to all the little clamps on the add on oil coolers, just check them, mine were all very loose, and one leaking when delivered. It only takes a minute, could save a lot of aggravation.
John thanks for the tip i will do just that before the first job wed.

I am real happy for ya! Is it a marked improvement over the Tiger? Could you give me more information on it's superiority, I would love to hear your thoughts, as you know my Tiger situation. Could you give me a ball park idea on what they gave you for the trade in? I just can't see giving up mine for a 3500 dollar trade. Thanks
