View Full Version : Having trouble splitting the crankcase on Kawasaki FH-381V-DS04
I'm trying to split the crankcase on a Kawasaki FH-381V and can't get the dang thing to come apart. I've removed the engine from the mower, flipped it and removed the 9 bolts on the bottom, removed the heads and push rods so everything that I need to take off/out should be done. I've tried beating on the thing with a rubber mallet all along the seal and can't get it to budge. Does anyone have any suggestions?

A short 2x4 and hammer LIGHTLY tapping on the mounting flanges moving from side to side.
Flip the engine over and hold it by the pan about a inch off the floor then have a friend lay a 2X4 on the end of the crankshaft and smack it with a BFH.
If this engine is locked up the crank could be welded to the pan bearing.
Thanks for the help, I finally managed to get it apart.
