Auburn Consolidated Industries, which shut its doors this week and laid off 125 people, could reopen with a new owner within a month.

The Auburn City Council has scheduled a special meeting for Tuesday night and the sole agenda item is canceling a community development loan to Auburn Consolidated Industries and releasing liens contingent on U.S Bank agreeing to the sale of the ACI property to Ariens.

Ariens is a Wisconsin-based maker of lawnmowers and snow blowers that in the past two years has acquired several smaller companies. Ann Stilp, communications manager for Ariens, said the company had an existing business relationship with ACI, which manufactured a brand of commercial mower for Ariens.

“So it makes sense for us to see what options there are with ACI,” she said.

That's kind of surprising. I'd read somewhere on here that the purchase of the entire company was doubtful, because you get $15 mil of debt along with the name. It was thought that it would get "parted out" rather than purchased in whole.

With the leins in place, nobody would buy the company, and take on that huge debt. Now, with the possibility the leins might be released, the outcome could change. Ariens has been interested it was rumored. However, this release of the leins is what could make this deal a go, possibily.
This last ditch effort might just work out and save jobs in that community. As a side note, Auburn had a contract to build the stand up machines for J.D. Ariens has done contract work for J.D in the past also. So, Ariens probably has the contacts it needs within the J.D organization to make this an easy transition. This should be interesting if it happens.

Why the doom and gloom!
Ferris was bankrupt how many times before Briggs bought them?
Exmark sold out to Toro. Husky owns Yazoo and Dixon.
EverRide builds for JD and Ariens as well as the units for Lesco. Plus mower decks for other OEM. In this day and age buy outs happen all the time what is different about this one? One of 6 companies that where trying to buy it on Friday will be pumping out more iron soon.
