L x W x D divided by 27 gives you cubic yards of anything.
I measured out 957 square feet and want to apply 2 inches average of mulch.

LxWxD divided by 27 is when you are working with numbers in feet; your example is 957 square feet times 2/12 or.17 feet deep, divided by 27 cu. ft. per yard = 5.9 yd.

6 yards should do it. might have a few pieces of mulch left over :-)

Forgot to tell you to convert the inches into a decimal of a foot.
Go to my web page and there is a page on conversions and formula's, etc.
Print it out for a good reference.
Hope this helps!
Thanks fellas. I had a formula written down and lost it that was slightly different, but this will work.

Thanx Kirby for that web site!!! I was almost spot on with there caculations from mine. I will probly try this setup next year for a comparison due to this year we went through 2 trailer truck loads of mulch from Morse Bro's (196 yards) we will probly go through 3 trucks next year for we will be leasing a bark blower for 30 days due to increased business.
