I'm fairly adept at using my hand tools, but I'm having some trouble determining the 'standard' size of two fittings.

I am not sure what you are saying, are you looking for the size socket to fit a 3/4" nut? This chart will tell you what fits what.

As a rule of the thumb, you add 50% to the nominal thread size and round up to the nearest 1/16" IF NECESSARY.
Not everyone uses rules or has thumbs tho- :)

Get a full set of both standard and metric sockets and wrenches, Then you will have what you need for any project that pops up.
What brand unit is that with a listing like that for nothing more than a screw/nut ? :dizzy:

It is a Hustler parts manual , if he will go down this list I showed him the decimal size conversions.

You ain't kiddin'. Looking at those specs made me feel like a noob. I mean, that's not the standard practice in listing measurments.. as far as I've seen. Am I even slightly justified for not knowing how to interpret them?
It is a Hustler parts manual , if he will go down this list I showed him the decimal size conversions.

Thanks for that. The link you provided is still loading as I type this. This list explains alot. Thanks

For Item# 13, what is STR-8MORB? The manual doesn't explain it anywhere

I think you might want to get up into the machine to ID these things...
At least one of them looks to be a HEX plug, the other I'm not sure, why'd they refer to a nut by 'HX,' wth they don't make but 6-sided nuts... Yeah, I'd be all for getting up under there and taking a good look, matter of fact you might want to get into the repair and be ready to drive to the store with the parts in hand so you can match it up, that's really the only way to be sure.

Right here is what they are talking about, STR is the second one in from the left.

This is the reason they call it "HX" because a hexagon is six sides!

The 3/4" nut you are asking about takes a 1 1/8" socket and the 1/2" drain plug on the hydraulic reservoir takes a 7/8" socket, now no more guessing.
