Just picked up a near new Snapper 48"wb. has mulcher kit with the quad (ninja) blades. I keep getting a windrow on the right side of the deck. Any suggestions as to how to eliminate it. btw, grass isn't too tall, only cutting about 1/3 of blade at 3 - 4 inches cutting height.

Check and make sure all 3 blades are cutting within their own cutting chamber. It sounds like the mower is passing grass from the left hand blades to the right hand side like a discharge deck does. If this is the case then you don't have a mulching deck or the kit is not a true mulching kit.

The Snapper mulching kit is a plate to cover the discharge opening and the ninja blades. Nothing else.

What Richard said is correct. You need to have the three blades enclosed seperatlely. I tried this before I bought the mulch kit for my exmark. With just the plate at the discharge, all the cuttings go to the discharge area, and it is blocked, and the pile of grass, leaves is left at the discharge. when I used the micro mulch kit, all the blades are enclosed seperately, a much better job. I do not know if snapper has a kit to enclose each blade, but that is what you need.

I hate to ask but what's a windrow, and what does it look like?

Whitles, We ran Ninja blades on our Snappers when we first started, we hated them! Take those blades off and remove the mulching plate and put some doubles on there and you'll be very happy.

Well,

That's better than needing VIAGRA.

Actually, windrowing is more of a verb than an actual thing, as it is most commonly used, but a windrow is the product of windrowing. Windrowing is the act of moving material row by row, build up as you go. Much the way you can use your mower to push leaves, or grass. In this case, he was getting a streak of piled grass out the one side of the mower, so this technically, is a form of windrow.;)

By not having a true mulching kit you will always experience this. A block off plate is just that. The airflow is not the same to get rid of clippings. You probably would be better off with double blades and put the plate back on to chop up leaves.

I tend to windrow my family after consuming certain foods:blush:

I had the same problem with my Scag......their version of a mulch kit was a plate that closed off the chute......shoot man...........that thing just piled grass up at and left a row of grass as I rolled along (hint hint.........wind.........row.........)

I did try double gators with the plate on and it was much better but until you enclose each cutting chamber you'll never really have a true mulcher................just more rows......windrows that is.

If you leave the OCDC down on the Dixie ,it will do the same thing.Should be illegal to sell a block off plate as a mulch kit,What a joke.As if someone was not going to notice it doesnt work as advertised? Id demand a refund on the kit.If you "mulched" your customers lawns with that mulch kit,how long would you be in business?

GEO,
Actually, I was speaking of actual windrowing, as that's what was asked about at that point from "newbie". However, it WAS brought up about the streaking problem caused from the "mulching" plates. This is not actually windrowing, I realize, but just happened to be a subsequent subject on this thread. I did say it was a form of windrowing, though, but it's not exactly the way it's done.lol:)
