If all you are going to do is yard maintenance, go for the better gas mileage of a 1/2 ton p/u. if you have a need to haul more than 1500lbs or pull more than 6,500lbs., then get you a 2500HD, but expect to pay a lot more for the truck and the gas.

A 6X12' trailer is big enough for a full size ZTR and a WB but unless it is a tandem I wouldn't use this set-up very long. No way will it hold a ZTR and 2 WB's. I would recommend a 6X16' tandem axle trailer ( with brakes ). I used a 1995 Chevy 1500 2wd with a 5.7 liter motor and pulled this exact trailer and set-up for 3 years without any problems.

Good gas milage=half ton, but you never know what you are going to be hauling so if I were you I would go for a 3/4 ton.

What ever you do, don't pay $3K for a 6x12 enclosed, thats nearly double what we can get them for everyday. And don't waste money for a diesel if you don't have a NEED for it. Seperate your WANTS and NEEDS. It'll do you no good to have a high dollar truck that you have to bust your butt just to pay for. Get a 6x12 trailer and a small truck (dakota, ranger,s10, etc.) so you'll have good gas mileage and you'll only need to pull 2500-3000 lbs. But if you want to look like the big boys go buy crewcab dually.

on some points agree but as far the 6x12 enclosed trailer for less $,3000
all can say is ha! maybe where you live things are cheaper but here in IL
it ain't getting any better. as far trucks for a 16 year old I would go with a old chevy or ford stay from dodge unless you like replacing the auto trans
best truck to imo would be 19?? ford 150 4.9 straight six with auto trans believe me you wont like stick shift found that one out the hard way.
but as far stick shift and diesels go there perfect for each other the diesel is harder to kill but you are in control of the truck shifting.
so with that being said just get something like a ford 150 4.9 straight six with auto trans they have really good motors.
also whatever you do try your best to stay out of debt also found that one the hard way.
I may of made some mistakes but Im only human :hammerhead:

Honestly, I don't think you know what your talking about in this post.
If you looked this up before you posted it, your wrong. The 4.9 is a great engine from Ford, however you said Auto Trans, number one, the Auto trans with that engine is a dog, and really, won't pull a lot. Sure, you'll get 150,000 miles out of that combo, but if you want towing power out of the 4.9, you need a stick.

Why wont he like Stick shift? Has he ever tried one? We don't know, he never said. I drive a stick shift daily, and as long as its an option, I'll always have one. What I tow with my S-10 would not be possible with an auto transmission.

Debt isn't that bad. In some cases its better then using a lump sum of money.

For Example, you go to buy a brand new ZTR. We'll just use cub cadet. (since I own one.)

You have $7,000 in the bank, you take out $5,000 to go buy this machine. Well, next week your truck breaks down, and needs a new Main Computer and one of your pistons is screwed up. So you need a top end rebuild. Costing over $2,000 in bills. How are you going to pay?

But if you would of financed the mower with 0% financing for 1 year, you have the money left, and the last month of 0%, you pay it off..

Even 3% wouldn't be bad...

I would deffinety look for V8. If you like toyota thats good, but I am a chevy man and would go with ford over toyota.

Then dont get one?! Who's telling you, you have to buy a 2000-2004.

Your 14, you can't even drive for 2 years....Why even look at trucks?

I would get a 3/4 ton ford. The diesels are nice, but I don't think you need it for your application. The 5.4L is a fantastic engine. Try and get as new as your can afford. There will be fewer maintenance problems down the road.

I would go for like a 1993-95 F250 U wont be sad. How much do u plan on spending? U can also get 1999 to 2000 superduty reg cab for like 7 grand of course they will have alot of miles.

i plan on spending somewhere around $7,000 at most. oh, my birthday is next friday. so its one year till i turn 16, not two. i like to have things planned out rather then just getting out there and going crazy without a set plan to refer to.

this is just my opinion but a 04 truck is way too new for a 16 year old.
still think your better off with a older truck when your first learning to drive.

nice old ford f150 or chevy 1500 will do you good.
start small and upgrade later on. also I would take some small engine courses in high school If they offer them.
