Do you guys have any recomendations for an exhaust setup that would not be to loud, but would sound good? I don't want to sound like a redneck special because this is my work truck.

I want something that is just slightly louder than stock during normal driving. I was considering this setup, but it may be to loud. Let me find the video for you.

LOL, my town is infested with people that think they need a diesel F-350 to tow a
6x12 single axle landscape trailer. I guess we have our fair share of redenecks too.

we've got loads of reds down here i litteraly get chased down by some of them when rolling in our C7500. it's every reds dream, c7cat air brakes/suspension and of course a side stack. I'll stop at a gas station and people will come up and ask me "pull good?" what am i supposed to say? uuuuh yeah

I have a dodge with a v-10 for my lawn truck. (please send gas money!!) Had a bad Cat. and had to do something. I wanted to pull the cats out totally and go with a "preformance" muffler. Like you, I wanted to NOT sound too much like white trash, but still have a nice rumble. Long story short, after buying 2 glass packs, since that's all I could find here that would fit the bill, I found that you can NOT run true duals on a v-10! Sounded like a v-10 ricer! Was horrible! Ended up yanking those off and bought a Flowmaster 70 series "big block 2" muffler that has dual inlets and a single outlet. It's not terrible loud now, but you definately have sound when pushing on the gas! I love it.

On my personal truck I have a Raven muffler, and quite frankly, it sounds OK, but if you want real "man truck" sound, spend the extra money and go with a flow master.

Do you think that the 40 series would be to loud for my needs? It's hard to really tell how loud it is if your not in person next to it.

The 40 series is a pretty SERIOUS muffler. A lot depends on your engine and your exhaust pipe routing too, but my buddy has what were assuming is a 40 series on his 350 chevy and it's pretty LOUD. I can hear his truck about a full 2 blocks away, from in my house. This is some accelerating though, just a steady speed they aren't that loud.

Honestly I was SUPRISED as to how much sound I get though the 70 series I bought. Honestly, it's listed as a "quiet" muffler on their charts! I'm glad I didn't go more aggressive, my goal isn't to wake the neghiborhoods I drive though with my truck. I might add that I also added an exhaust tip too, flares from 3" pipe to 4", the last 15" on the end. Because of that, and it's a hard stainless steel, I'm sure this adds some resonance (sp?) to mine that it may not have naturally had with just the standard diameter pipe. I never tried it without it.

I have the flowmaster 70 series, it seems to be just what I asked for , deep sound when i want it , but only slightley lowder than stock normal driving. its on a 03 f250 5.4L v8

Go with the flowmaster 50 series, perfect for what you want. I have a cat back set up on my ford 4.6 and it sounds great. Has a nice deep tone at idle, but gets real throaty when you hit the gas. Trust me, get it!

Scag413: I am in Lafayette.

Thanks for the opinions. My stock front pipes are 2 1/8" so would it be easier to put on a 2.25" or 2.5" muffler?

The bigger the pipe you put on the deeper the tone the little 2 inch stuff gives you the crackle. Go with a flowmaster and 2.5 or 3 inch pipe.Big tips deepen it up to.

I have an Edelbrock dual exhaust setup on my dodge 250 360ci. It sounds really nice. 3 inch pipe I believe.

That big pipe also ruins your low end power in my experience with other trucks with exhaust. I am not trying to gain power, but I don't want to lose any. I think Toyota has this engine tweaked to the max and I'm afraid that I'm going to bolt this on and wish I wouldn't have.

I just put a Flowmaster Origional 40 on my Dakota (non work truck). I have a single in dual 2.5" to 4x18" stainless tips. I love it. It is very loud and deep. I mean it is LOUD!!!!! I'd go with the 50 series if I were you. I'd say the 2.5" pipe would be fine for the 5.7 Toyota. You might lose a tiny bit of low end grunt, but not enough to notice IMO. I lost a little on my 4.7, so you should be fine.

My 2500 Silverado with a 350 has a great sound I think. I had them put on 3" pipe back from the Y with a Flowmaster exhaust and cat. Tons more power and sounds cool to boot, better milage too.

My mileage went down only because I'm on the gas a lot more now.

I used to do stupid $hit like that in high school too. Then I blew a rod through an oil pan one morning and that was the end of "putting people to shame". However, some of us FFA guys with the loud trucks used to pull up alongside all the preps high dollar cars with alarms and drop the hammer and set the alarms off. We always got called upon to pull the floats in the homecoming parades. anyway.my two cents worth. I have stock exhaust on my 2500 Silverado HD with the 6.0 and want to do something with it, but my wife says it's loud enough...:hammerhead:

I cant speak for the new tundra but i have a 2006 4.7 with a 40 series single in duel out with 3in tips and it sounds good not too loud for high way driving but its loud enouhg to hear when you get on it. I also have a buddy that got a 07 chevy 4.6 or 4.8 L what ever chevys small v8 is and put a 40 series on it no tip or anything just on stock pipe and honestly it sounds every bit as good and as loud as my toyota does. DIdnt cost him near as much either since i got the stainless tips but i still like the look of mine. Honestly id go for the 50 series though for a little tamer tone and interior resinence

i bought my truck with flowmaster 50 series and dual tips, when i installed my trailer hitch, it took a lot of effort to get the pipe out of the way for the hitch. i like the sound of it for just driving, but when towing in tow mode, the rpm's stay higher, and the truck is just anoying when on the highway.

I have a flowmaster 40 series cat back on my 6.0. Man that thing has some roar with my trailer going up hills, lol. But just easy on the gas and rolling along it isnt too bad. My fuel mileage is alot better now.

If she thinks your 6.0 with stock exhaust is loud, I bet she'd really like my 2001 3500 dually with the 8.1 V8 and factory exhaust. :) Some people who have been behind me have been known to complain about the noise when I takeoff. They don't call it a loud pedal for nothing.

I have a flow 40 on my 04 f150 and its not nearly as loud as i wanted it to be. lots of power added and up on the freeway when people wont stay off the corner of the trailer and i need to get over it goes. But will see how it plows in the next month or so bring on the snow.

i have a flowmaster 50 series. i wanted the 70 series since it would be pretty quiet. im glad that the muffler shop didnt have any in stock because the 50 is perfect. on the highway i can barely hear it. my friend with the same truck has a 40 and the in-cab noise is really annoying.
