Is the protype broke?? I see a bag of tools in the last photo.
Do you have any other details, like when it will be on the US market? What model year?

it would be nice if they really built things the way they do in these shows. I would love to have a truck with 20" wheels, actual tires instead of donuts, and a diamond plate bed.
So Toyota doesn't even have a "HD" truck yet and they are just going to jump head on into a 1ton. geeze, that is scary. I guess they are going to put that little 4.6L gasser in it to pull all that weight around too?

Ha, funny. But Toyota has made 1-ton trucks for a loooong time. Remember those dumpy little ones with long beds from the 80's? The ones they made campers on? LOL. Strange setups, but they sure ran. Still see them all the time...

I was reading a article bout it. It showed a 5th wheel hitch that 24k on it. Ppl in the article said that the thing could probally tow 24 k because of what it said on the 5th wheel hitch. U think that is true?

Ford's '08 F-450 dually has a package that tows 24,000 plus. So I would suspect everyone's going that high within the next year or so. Why come out with a new 1-ton and not even be in the same league as your competition?

I seen a new Tundra with a gooseneck setup last Saturday.

I think the big three should start really improving their trucks. Otherwise their reign may soon end.

This truck is NOT going to be built. Its NOT a concept, its a PROJECT. It has a 8.0L I6 not intended for a truck this size. This is just a SEMA project.
I can't wiat for news on the production version though.

That engine redlines at like 2300 RPM. It really doesn't seem that impressive. It looks like they still have the same POS tailgate on there too. I really hope they improve the tailgates on these trucks. Other than that my truck is great.

i agree with you the 1/2 tons look like **** (look wise) i cant comment on any other aspect other than the fact that i hate the way they look. Ive seen on ofthere 1/2 tons that i liked and it was silver with tow mirrors. But i do disagree i think that 1 ton looks preety sweet maybe its just the fact that its bigger and beefer looking but none the less id buy it (the one ton proto picture that one)

It's the exact same as a crewcab with flared rear fender wells and two extra wheels. Everything else is the exact same. Boy those are some nice fenders:rolleyes:

You don't need to wind it to the moon if you have enough power down low. The Cummins Dodges only had a 2500 redline for years, and it's only 3200 now. Besides, it's about 26-27, looking at the tach in the pic.

my SI revs 8250rpm and is a torqueless joke....below 5500rpm = no fun
my DT466 revs 2500rpm with lots of torque but no 'fun' factor

Thats actually all the torque a 350/3500 needs, the torque wars are crazy. Pretty soon a ton will be pulling B-train pulpwood loads:)

OK, I can't believe I'm saying this, but if that exact truck was on a showroom floor, I'd be all over it. I'd take that truck in a heart beat.

8.0l inline six. This is on a whole different level than two of the big three.
The Cummins is the only motor to power trucks with 35,000 GVW like the Hino does and its not as comfortable as the big 8liter. There still is no replacement for displacement.
Obviously that motor won't turn up in production models but it is pretty impressive. I haven't followed it too closely but I remember hearing something about Catterpillar turning up in the big 'yotes.

Watch the video in this link http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/autoshows/sema/2007/toyotatundradieselduallyprojecttruck.html#toyotaduallyf34500
They reported that the Hino 8.0ltr engines output at 300hp/600trq. That is the output of my 6.0ltr powerstroke. Also, the report contradicts the article on that same page. So, which is correct? Good question.
Additionally, the reporter stated (in the video) that one truck is all that Toyota plans to build, but that many featuers may be implemented into current Tundras.

your 6.0 has 325 hp, and 570 lb tq...close but not quite. he was talking about the new diesels. they all have 350 hp and 650 pound feet of torque. duramax has 360hp.

see, here is the funny part. The new cummins is a 6.7 and this is an 8.0. Both are inline sixes yet stock power for the hino is 220hp/520ftlbs. the show truck had a slightly tune engine. still, the cummins has 1.3ltrs less yet makes much more power. Also the truck was built off of 2 1/2ton crewmax frames, which suck. THIS TRUCK SUCKS! PERIOD. btw, did anyone notice the tailgate body gaps? you can see the inside of the bed!!

Regardless of whether the truck will actually look like this in production, I guarantee Toyota will have a 1 ton truck in the very near future. They know that not producing a 1 ton truck is the only thing keeping them from completely dominating the truck market and they'll push to make it there.
