That sucks. That V-8 is built in Huntsville, I think... somebody correct me if I'm wrong...

Hate to hear bad news for anyone.

What, they had flaws on the first year of a new model...

This has never happened to GM or Ford.

The tundra's are excellent trucks, and I am glad that Toyota is backing their end and admitting there was an issue instead of covering it up ala Ford.

I agree with many of the comments on the link page you gave. Most of the others will never admit they have ANY problems with their vehicles and here Toyota is in shame because of a few cracked tailgates and failed torque converters!
Chevy, Ford, and Dodge have built lemons for years, knowingly, and will never fess up to it! Often you don't even know you are one of many with problems unless you go to a DEALER for service and find out theres a "silent recall" on whatever it is you are needing fixed.

Toyota admitting their flaws is just another one of their strengths!

I have owned a Tundra, a few years back, Loved it, but also it wasn't the truck for me. I went back to GMC and like my truck, but I have a feeling that I would have been money ahead repair-wise had I stuck with the Tundra!

You're hilarious dude. I like American trucks, we run Fords mostly, but seriously, nobody has a better track record than Toyota, period. Did the new Ford 6.4 Powerstrokes have problems? Yes, and you'd be a moron to try and argue against that, I'd still buy one now that they have those issues fixed. At least Toyota can admit to their mistakes and work around them. Good for them, the next batch of Tundras will be 120% better guaranteed, that's just the Japanese way to out-do themselves whenever possible.

I plan on buying a newer Tacoma within the next year. As an equipment operator for hire, I won't need the ability to tow anything, just pack some tools around with me.

thats great! but ford owned up to the 6.0 powerstroke stating its flaws, and have corrected pretty much all problems. so dont bring them into it. and they always announce the recalls.

I have 3,000 trouble free miles so far. I have been towing with it since the second day that I got it.

The ONLY thing that the big three have on this truck is the tailgate. The design is not very good, however, give it a couple of welds and it is just as good as any other.

The tailgate problems and limited TC problems are being fixed by Toyota and the people are give 6 year 100,000 warranties once there fixed.

After having a perfect track record like Toyota a couple of problems like this gives them a huge black eye and brings shame to them. Either way, who the hell cares what that silly asian thinks anyways.

They had ZERO flaws before the Tundra debacle?

How does it go from Toyota to Ford so quickly. I find it funny how everyone likes to remember the 6.0 in 2003 and what they drive is the end all of trucks. How many nonford cab chassis do you see out there? What does almost every fleet consist of? Fords. GM has only even had a decent diesel for 6 years. The 6.5 was laughable. How does I year with the 2003 6.0 overshadow almost a decade of that 6.5 is beyond me. Every time I drove a Dodge the only strong point I can tell of was the motor. The only cab chassis dumps we had for plowing in PA was Ford. They loaded 5 ton of cinders with a 1000k v-plow on hilly terrain. and the Dodge, GM's frame cracked within the first year. Funny thing I went on vacation this summer and the 1997 Ford is STILL running. The GMC is still growing weeds sitting with a split frame after 2 months of use back in 1997.

I guess perfect isn't the right word there. How about the best there is other than Honda. Is that better?

I would have bought the new tundra if they werent so ridiculously priced. I mean the new Ford and GM diesels are just as much but atleast your getting a diesel!

I am a moron?? before you start spouting off at the mouth why don't you get the facts. Toyota is having more problems than just the Junkra. The Camrys engine sludge and electrical problems, the Rav4 sales have just been suspended because of major 4WD problems and not to mention the long list of other problems that go unheard. Read up on the facts and you might be surprised what you find. Consumer Reports has offical said, they will not recomend any Toyota car or truck until the data comes in on the vehicle. Consumer Reports until now just recomended Toyota's without the facts because of their previos track record. So go on with your little sissy truck and be proud.....

That's entirely subjective, and open to debate.

It all depends on what you're using the vehicle for.

A domestic 1-ton would eat your Tundra for lunch when it comes to tough, punishing work. Not a bash, simply the facts.

I guess I just spit out one ton cause that is what came to my mind... Usually the only difference is what's underneath the body between the 3/4 and 1 tons.

foreign cab chassis----Hino, Isuzu, UD, Misti Fuso, Sterling.....to name a few commercial cab chassis....

Ford, Chevy, Dodge, are all know for their TSB's much easier to have a silent recall and save face than own up to a problem....I lost my truck due to a faulty ignition switch, but since no official recall had been done, only a TSB, and since I was the second owner, ford claimed they had no obligation...

Its kinda like when you were a child and did something wrong, you parents always told you it was better to come forward and admit you did wrong rather than trying to hide it and keep it a secret. The punishment is always harsher.

I applaud Toyota for coming forward to admit problems...better than sweeping it under the rug....

Toyota has swept many things under the carpet. They have never admited the engnine sludge problem that has caused thousands of fires in the Camrys. All auto makers have their secrets. Toyota has no other option to admit the Tundra is junk, because everyone is complaning..

But therein lies the rub. f150, 1500, or tundra are NOT work trucks....they are not designed or rated for commercial use, and in most cases in the warranty paper work, the warranty is usually voided or shortened when its pressed into commercial work...

Oh I completely agree with you Marc.

That's why I nearly had a heart attack trying to convince my brother to get a 3/4 ton truck instead of an F150. He thought it would be ok for work, towing the trailer, hauling mulch, etc and I just about lost it on him. Luckily after speaking to some other friends of mine who are in the construction business, he changed his mind.

I'm just saying that IF you decided to use a 1/2 ton for work(I wouldn't) that I'd pick an offering from Ford or GMC over anything else.

It was one thing to press my 87 s-10 into service hauling a 50 gallon spray rig and another when my f150 gave up the ghost. but I could not have been happier with my 2500hd chevy long bed....sites like this help prevent people from making the stupid mistakes...

Butif all you are towing a a 5x10 with a a wb, a 1/2 ton will do ya fine...

I have heard of the problems with the tundra, but even with that said I still purchase it again. I believe if I had a problem Toyota would take care of the problem asap, the same way they did my wife's camry
