Hi,

Just bought this unit is the one with the tines, not the knives.

Kind of late to be asking now but how are the results when overseeding?
The plan is to just use the thatcher and then broadcast the seed. I did my own lawn by just broadcasting the seed and had very good results. But if Im doing this for customers I want to take an extra step to ensure great results.

Second question is will this unit destory the grass? When using this machine on the highest setting it cut, or should I say, shred a lot of the grass from 3" to 1.5" while taking out the thatch on the ground.

Thanks for any help.

I have one thats 25 years old. I put an 8hp engine on it right away, it came with a 5hp. If you dethatch a lawn a lawn, you have a truck load of debris to rake up. I've used it to " depopulate" the weedy areas of a fescue lawn, or to scratch up some bare areas, prior to aerating and overseeding.
I'm not sure what "tines" and "not knives" denotes. On my owners manual, you have a choice of flail blades, or fixed knives. I haved flail blades- 4 rows of blades, being slung at the ground. They scratch and don't dig.
