we charge 65 $ when its just a pgp swap....

If i have to work >Straight to labor and materials, with a minium of 45$ 1 hr.

so that would be about 85-100$ depending on if the customer was nice or not.

Actually I got $65 for labor and $7.00 for a new 4" toro w/nozzle. Thank God for sawsalls!!! Had to cut around this baby twice as the roots came from a gumbo limbo tree about 30' away and locked onto the head. I'm on an island 5 by 7 miles so trip cost are tiny. My normal service call charge is $65.00 up to 1 hour plus parts. This job used every bit of it.

I got charged $75 to replace a single head. This is when I learned to do it myself. There really isn't much to it.

Worst part is that the head didn't even sit right so I had to fix it. It also wasn't adjusted properly so I had to buy a tool to adjust it. They did at least use the same RB 5000 as the rest of the system.

Too bad you chose to downgrade the head!

However there really is much cost to running your own business....

I didn't say if this was a bad price or not. I'm just saying this is what I got charged so, if anything, the poster was probably undercharging.

I think it is probably more of an inconvenience for these guys that run their own business to have to come out just to replace a head. I'm sure the majority of the $75 was just a charge for fuel/ time to get to the job.

I have to say I was a bit ticked when it wasn't done correctly. This is why I learned to do it myself.

They should have come back out and made it right. Fair price though, seems normal.

Our invoice would have looked like this;

$95.00 Service Call - First Hour
$8.33 Rain Bird 1804 pop-up spray head (list plus 10%)
$2.37 Rain Bird VAN Nozzle (List +10)
$1.00 Marlex funny elbow
-----
$106.70 Total

And we wouldn't have left a bill. We would have been paid on the spot. I have a FT irrigation tech. who does several such jobs all day every day for about 9 months of the year.

If you're so inclined and won't electrocute yerself!

To many irrigators, that is an oddity and a "conversation piece". Shine it up and stick up on your mantle.

I'm okay with this invoice except for the van nozzle. They are as bad as the unispray that is being replaced. Why take a great popup like the 1804 and top it off with a van?

I can assure you having read Jim's previous postings he is using either an 1806 or the sam/prs version. May be a typo in their.

We're close. I do an 1804 (no prs or sam) and a nozzle at a flat $10.

No. My bad. I thought that looked wrong. But I wasn't paying careful attention. I am here in AZ working on a big project and I don't have any of my usual stuff handy (2007 RB Price List, for example) so I just went to the RB Website and got the price for a RB1804 head from there. The prices on their website match the price list prices. But what I didn't notice was that the head they sell on the website already includes the price of a nozzle. I didn't realize that before when I made the post late last night.

I'm okay with this invoice except for the van nozzle. They are as bad as the unispray that is being replaced. Why take a great popup like the 1804 and top it off with a van?

I agree. It was just an example. That's why I said, "my invoice would look LIKE this.

The reality is we would have replaced the nozzle with whatever nozzle was already in the head we were removing. We have a full stock of all nozzles in the van. So we use whatever is appropriate to match the rest of that zone. It was just an example, folks.

My point was I would have billed for a lot more than $65.

Might be a regional thing, OP (reb) is from Florida and his per hour billing might be a whole lot less than other parts of the country.
