I'm looking at getting a '02 Sierra 1500, 4x4, 5.3 V8, ext cab, 150k miles (240k km's).
My question is: What is the 5.3 engine like on this truck? Will I be able to get 30-40k miles out of it? (I'll be gettin a new truck in spring '09) Its at an auction so what do you think the max value of the truck is?

if the truck was well taken care of yes, it will last you, I have seen some gm's with 300k gassers.

i had a '98 model with the same engine. at 106,000 it started having bearing problems. i had run it very hard on a long trip and that might have been what got it. otherwise great engine. good comprimise between big power and fuel economy. worse case figure the cost of a reman engine into your bid.

I got rid of my 1500 sierra about a year ago when it had 130k on it and it never had a days worth of trouble. My father in law bought one with 180k on it and it now has 240k on it and all he did was a tune up (plugs, wires, etc.) and he had to have the transmission rebuilt, but with that kind of miles, that is pritty good for a gasser.
had a 2000 almost exact same truck and it had the 5.3 too....nice truck had it until about 66k miles and she ran great...for a half ton it got the job done

Alright, thanks guys. I know I'll never run into a completely trouble-free truck but this one is looking pretty good. I won't be using it for too long either. If I can get it for the riht price, I'll jump on it.
