Are you going to use it for only residential purposes, say, on your own yard !! If so, then probably no more than 1,000 to 1,100 hours ... if you're going to use it commercially then no more than 700 hours would be my recommendation !!

thanks for the info. i know a hire hand can be hard on equipment so what types of problems can these mowers have. there some exmark lazers for sale 98' w/ 1000hrs. for $2800 , 2003' w/ 2200hrs. for $3800. are they pretty much trashed with alot of hours?

It depends what kind of engine it has ... Honda, Kawasaki, and Kohler are all generally considered to be the commercial grade engines. Having said that, if a machine and engine has been taken care of (i.e.-serviced every 50 hours, etc.) most people would generally expect a useful life of approximately somewhere between 2,000 to 2,500 hours before things start breaking down and needing to be replaced. As a general rule, I don't think I would buy a used ZTR with more than 1,500 hours on it maximum, if it's a commercial grade machine. If it's a residential grade machine with more than 400 - 500 hours I wouldn't touch it. Of the 2 options you listed I would go with the 1998 with 1,000 hours ... however, I don't think I would be willing to pay that price !!

i sold my brother a lazer z with 1680 hour on it 3 years ago he is still using to this day to mow his 3 acres.
1,110 hours on a mower is nothing . things i would check would be the blade spindles/ bearings, pumps, wheel motors , run a compression test on the motor check to see if the deck is bent , level and cuts like it should. and i would try to test it out for 5-10 minutes

look on ebay there is a guy selling lazer z mowers with 1,000 -1,100 hour for $4,000 . i was going buy 2 of them but decided to get a new 60'' 30 hp lazer z instead . i was planning on running 3 mowers this year but decided to start up a sealcoating business so 2 mowers will be enough for now

i have seen those cv and ch kohlers go for 3800 hr if taken care of.on the exmark check the shocks on the hydro arms if they are blown do not buy it. most times once these things are blown they tend to spike the pumps and motors(THE most costly of repairs). another good sign that can tell you it was treated are the front casters if they are bent things have been hit.also the leading edge of the deck for same reasons. if the operator has run things down then he may have run a lot of things down.check spindles for play and blades for wear,(also gives ya a view on how it was maintained) of course pull the dipstick check air filter all the normal kicken the tire things. good luck
