I ordered parts for my 260K over three weeks ago from the local dealer and have yet to receive them. I've called twice and he said he would call as soon as they came in. Obviously I'm in no dire need. but I'd like to get going on my machine, and am just wondering if this is normal for this company for future reference.

I guess it depends on the parts you ordered...
The mower you are ordering parts for is a few years out of production, so dealers aren't stocking as many parts for them.
This post is over a week old, if you are still awaiting parts let me know.
Also be aware that we were on plant shut down out in KS other than for emergency orders for almost the last 2 weeks.

I had my dealer check and he said that they were waiting on one part and would ship everything when it came in. It has been 3 & 1/2 weeks at this point. Not a huge issue but I would rather get this stuff sooner than later.

Ok, I got my parts today approx two months after I ordered them. I still need a 008532 pulley, I googled this part number and found it has been superseded to part number 520643 this pulley was used on the 251K with the 18hp Kohler Magnum. I also need the pump clutch idler arm assembly 443879 which also has a new part number of 529370. This clutch arm assembly is shown in the parts book on page 6-2.
I am happy to have these parts finally as I can now get going on my project. The 20 HP Vanguard motor that I am using bolts up perfectly to the engine mounting plate holes, next step is fabricating the exhaust and I'll be doing that tomorrow from an exhaust system I bought on ebay .

So you need 520643 and 529370 still?
I will have our parts manager see whats going on.

I show 008532 being replaced by 520361
529370 is the replacement for 44387, is that what you need?
Let me know ASAP so I can look into this.

I called Todd in service parts and he told me of the number change. I called my dealer and relayed the info. It seems to me that the ball was dropped at the distributor level. Hopefully I can get the pulley and pump clutch idler is short order. Too bad these parts are sitting on the shelf at the Hustler warehouse while I'm sitting on my hands for two months waiting for them. I called my dealer and stopped by several times during this period. Where did I go wrong? I'd like to know so I can avoid this situation in the middle of the mowing season. Maybe I should be using a dealer with a different distributor but I'd like to cultivate a good relation with someone local.

the pulley and pump clutch arm assembly. I ordered them from my dealer (with the correct part numbers that I got from Todd in your service parts department) on Monday, February 4th. I'll let you know when they come in. Thanks for the follow-up.

do you think I would be better of ordering parts form another dealer outside my area and have them mailed? The parts I need are sitting on the shelf in the Hustler warehouse, I have verified this twice. Am I the only one to have this problem? I'd love to know were I went wrong in this transaction.

You're not the only one. It took almost 5 weeks to get parts for my trimstar. Certainly at least in my area hustler is not proving themselves. How can you run a business with this kind of service?

It took 12 weeks. It only took me a couple of days to get the machine together and up and running. I won't know how the Vanguard motor performs until the grass starts growing. Tomorrow I'm going to get going on restoring the backpac catcher. Heaven help me should I need any parts for it. Suggestions welcome.

There is a large Hustler dealer that sold the largest amount of those units in the country for many many years, you need to call them, they likely have the parts in stock.
Richey and Clapper in Sudbury.
(978) 443-1333
Other dealers don't stock parts for units they did not sell, or at least not a lot of them, a lot of the dealers in your area are new to Hustler in the last 5 years and never sold a 251 or 260 unit.

I will give them a try. Parts that are not in stock shouldn't take 12 weeks to get if they are sitting on the shelf in the MFG warehouse. If this was my company I'd be chasing down this problem and making changes so it doesn't happen in the future. I feel sorry for the person or business trying to make a living with equipment that takes this long to get parts for.
