Resurrection

What's the consensus for resurrecting 4,5,6-month or 2-year old threads? I keep seeing it but have only recently learned to look for it before I also jump up and beat the dead horse like it was brand new.

Some are informative, timely reminders or requests for updates, others just throw me off. Actually that's what all the posts are.
