I'm apparently one of the few people in the world affected by this since.

But let's give the former number one web browser a proper funeral

Just get Firefox.

Actually on DW's suggestion I'm using Camino. Firefox for Macs. Netscape deserves a special place in internet/browser history. For many including myself it was our first browser.

I still have NS 4.7 on this Windows 98 antique. Haven't used it in ages. And, yes, it was a faster browser than Internet Explorer.

If your using FireFox, you are in a way using Netscape since they are both Mozilla based.

If your interested in the next "netscape", then check out SeaMonkey (http://www.seamonkey-project.org/)

Nice interview with the newspaper there Fim-Meister.

I've nothing against it, just looked easy to hack on for a while.

I suspect a severe lack of garmentage.

At the time of when it mattered, Internet Explorer 4.0 was actually the better browser. It is definitely not that way now, though I have high hopes that the competition from Firefox and Safari will cause Microsoft to really work hard at IE8. They have the ability to make a truly great product, they have done it before.

My first browser was actually NCSA's Mosaic. The great granddaddy of all browsers.

Netscape is still alive though.

They have a building off of 237 in Mt. View.

BIG building with word NETSCAPE in bold letters.

Go by the building and you see the "for lease"sign.

To bad AOL\TIME WARNER got a hold of it. Just like Toro, buy something that you can't compete against and then destroy it.

However, Netscape died when AOL chose IE4 over Netscape browser.
