It could be a bad switch or simply a bad battery. First dissconnect the battery for a day or so and then re-connect it to see if it held power. If the battery is dead then you know its the battery. If not then it is being grounded somehow or the charging system isnt working correctly and that is a different test procedure, but i bet its a bad battery. To test the charging system you need an ohm meter and put the positive and negatitive on the correct terminals and see if the battery reads at least 13 or more volts while the mower is running. If it does, then it is the battery. Also chech to make sure that the terminal are clean and tight too.

On some units there is a wire in a harness that was misassembled from the factory. Contact your selling dealer. He should be aware of the fix. If not, he needs to call Pat at the Scag factory to get the answer.

I have a Scag 48 Turf Tiger and had the same problem I went threw 2 batteries in less then a month.my problem was a bad Voltage Regulator it was cover by Warranty but the battery wasn't.

Make sure you check the voltage with the ohm metrer while the mower is running. It should read between thirteen and 14 volts. If less or more it could be the regulator.
