Although the turn out was low, I think it still was a great success. Unfortunatly we had many no-shows, but on the flip side it was a great one on one with the lawn guys.

I thank the guys for coming, and the MFG's for bringing their stuff.

Anyone with other reviews please post them in this thread.

10-21-2001, 05:00 PM
any pictures?

Did people say they would show and didn't?

10-21-2001, 05:25 PM
Yeah, LGF. Any expectation on when the pictures will be posted?

10-21-2001, 05:30 PM
What do u consider low? how many attended?

10-21-2001, 07:45 PM
The turnout of MFG's was great. Probably as many personell envolved with the many products there as there were visitors. Did have a couple of people that just decided to drop in when they drove by. I enjoyed the low to no pressure deal, and it looked like a lot of demoing was done. Thanks to everyone involved in the work it takes to put something like that on. Thanks, Brad

10-21-2001, 08:41 PM
Pics will be posted soon I hope.

We had about 100 roll though threwout the day.

There were many that said they would be there, 1 I my not of seen them or 2 they didn't show up. But it was not a loss.
I coinsider it a start for future events like this on a smaller scale than the Louiville Expo or the GEI Expo.

I have to anounce that a certain member of Lawnsite found out Friday morning at 1am that he has Leukemia at the age of 17 years old. He is a good friend, sort of a family member, and an employee of mine. He has a 75% chance of kicking it within 2 years. I hope all the treatment work for him.

Thanks LGF:blob1:

I hope things turn out for the best concerning your emp. and glad to hear that your event was a success.

Well I made it back finally. Here is the pictures I have. They are all thumbnail pics so just click on them for a larger picture. Some of the dark ones I had to lighten up so some of the quality was lost.

I have not filled in names on all of them yet. I just wanted to get them up for everyone to see.

Also, and I apologize, I thought I had a picture of all LS members that were there, but turns out I don"t.

I will fill in names as soon as I can.

Thanks to LGF for setting this up it was nice to finally meet some of the members.

Man, does THAT look like it was a good time! Thanks for the pics, Todd. I wish I would have been there!

Sorry, I really was hoping to make it myself. I sure didn't enjoy calling to cancel my reservations. Sure did look like fun.

hope the reps weren't dissapointed. I think they're will be a better turn out next year and hopefully I can schedule to go. Looked like lots of fun. What's better than dreaming about your next mower? Driving it.

Not according to one member. He posted in off topic, he would never get a camera like mine, since it takes horrible pictures. ;)

I am beginning to think that Kirby is as much a Stone fan as Stearns is a Dr. Laura fan. Stearns admits that he loves to hate her so that must make him one of her biggest fans -LMAO!!!

Glad to hear the event was a success. Hopefully these meetings that have taken place will result into second and third annual "First and Last LS BBQs" LOL!!!

10-22-2001, 09:55 AM
As a fellow cut-n-paster, I have to say that that pic of Larry is a riot. Nice one Ray.

I was not a no-show, I knew I couldn't make it (anniversary #17 and child school commitments) but boy I wish I could have. It looked like a great time. Hopefully next year.

Did anyone get a picture of dhicks and Eric standing next to each other. Mayby its just me but those gents could be twins. I met them together apart one time so mayby I'm wrong.:p

I applaud you for organizing this and following thru. It sounds like the start of bigger things to come. Mayby a LS ski outing??

You guys should not make fun of that machine. It just received a complete tune up and I am installing a speed up "kit".

This will give me a production rate of 4 acres an hour on sports fields while using 3 quarts of unleaded.

Plus that is a 62" Toro deck. Your "off" brand mowers just don't
'cut" it.

If that deck is on a new ZTR, a beat groundsmaster. or a belt drive walk behind the results look the same.

My perspective on the Mid-West BBQ.

Baltimore International Airport is 54 miles from my residence. I left the house at 0830 and I arrived at the Southwest gate at 1200 for a 1220 departure to Saint Louis. Security at BWI is very tight. No big deal. I had plenty of Starbucks and I enjoyed watching the people and the mayhem at the airport. One could only guess that my looks meet the profile of those being targeted for search at the airport. I was searched from one end to the other and was even patted down. They even searched the inside of my ball cap. Again, no big deal.

I arrived in Saint Louis in good spirits and picked up my rental car ($15.00 plus tax per day/unlimited mileage) and drove to the Westport Sheraton Hotel. The hotel was great and the Westport plaza has about 18 restaurants, a comedy club, and even an Irish Pub. Friday night, using my el cheapo GPS I found Mike’s house. Mike and I went to the grocery store to get food and beverages for the BBQ on Saturday.

Later that night, those of us from Lawnsite gathered at Mikes for good camaraderie and cheer. It was my pleasure to finally meet Eric and his beautiful wife (you old dog). Someone said in an old post that Eric and I looked alike. Well, the truth be known, Eric is much better looking than yours truly.

On Saturday morning, I arrived at the Elks Lodge and all of the vendors were set up and ready to go. The vendors in attendance were Hustler, Toro, Dixie Chopper, eXmark, Flex-Deck, Ariens, Scag, Gravely, and Magna-Matic. If there were additional vendors I simply forgot for this post.

Mike was busy unloading the food and drink from his truck and getting ready to start cooking. What was especially nice about this venue was “one-on-one” contact with the CEO’s of Hustler and Dixie Chopper and representatives from the other manufacturers. You simply jumped on a machine and take it out for a test drive/mow then talk specifics with the manufactures’ representative. Later in the day, I had the honor to meet Chuck. God do I feel old after meeting Chuck. The BBQ was great: there was plenty of food for everyone to enjoy. We had brats, Polish sausages, dogs, Buffalo wings, potato salad and baked beans, and cold drinks.

Mike did a fantastic job coordinating this event. It was no small endeavor to make all the arrangements for this event to happen. THANKS MIKE! While attendance at the BBQ was less than expected, I had a great time and hope this will be an annual event. Also, the folks at the Elks Lodge were very accommodating and they serve the coldest beer in town. On Saturday night, those from LS were to gather for dinner. Unfortunately, the activities of the day made me tired and I went to bed at 2000.

Many thanks to Mike and to all the manufactures at the BBQ. I had a great day!:blob4:

I also want to thank All of the Mfg that brought so much equipment to this BBQ. We had a great time there. :)

It was nice to meet Paul and PJ from Hustler. I enjoyed talking to them. I also got to meet the folks from Magna Matic and Brad from Flex Deck. These are the ones I've corresponded with by email and felt like I knew them.

After counting up how many members I got to meet, it was only 15, which included Mfg members and reps. I'm not sure where all the other members were that was supposed to be there, but next time I hope we have name tags so we know who is who.

BTW, I finally got to meet Chuck Keough after talking to him for over 2 years. :)

We sure had a great time hanging out with the ones that did show up and we are looking forward to the next one. ;)

Thanks for putting this together Mike.

Hey everyone....My name is Troy and I'm working with Barry on the Gravely Pro Walk Series as the a Project Engineer. I was able to attend the BBQ in Barry's absence...and although the turn out was less than expected, I found the comments on the new pro-walk to be very beneficial. I think this was a great idea and a great opportunity to meet all of you who use these products. I am hoping this will grow to a larger event next year.

Please keep the comments coming on all units so that I can focus our design work to your needs. I'll be checking in from time to time...

Hello Guys,
I must start out by saying what a great time I had in Saint Louis meeting fellow LawnSite members and demoing all kinds of equiment. Below is a link to the pictures I took with a difital camera. There is more to come from my regular camera but they are not developed yet. The best part of the BBQ weekend was getting to just sit around and talk face to face with everyone. I look forward to doing this more in the future. Those of you who were not there, we all wished you could have been. I also look forward to meeting more members at future events like this. Thanks to Mike and all those who contributed to the great event.

Pictures posted at http://www.archerlawncare.com/lsbbqpics/

Just like to say that i had a great time meeting with other lawnsite members. Too bad we didnt have name tags or a sign in sheet so we had an idea of who was there. Thanks to all fo the mgf's that came out on saturday and brought lots of great equipment for us to demo. I had a great time and imagine i can speak for others as well. Thanks again to all that made this happen.
Hope there is bbg #2 soon.

No, thats happens to be an "Evan" on the Dixie. I believe its the "528" model which improved upon the previous "527" model. You can tell by the blue shirt and the "why the heck didn't I bring my sunglasses" squint. The "529" model will come standard with sunglasses.

Oh yeah, does he win the furthest travelled award?

Eric ELM
10-24-2001, 07:23 PM
Evan and dhicks should both get the long distance travel award.

10-24-2001, 08:00 PM
LOL @ TLS....that was great...Can you imagine what the 530 model will be like? I think it might come standard with hair! LOL! J/k.

I was there. Probably didn't introduce myself well enough. I couln't stay for all the eats. It was kinda nice not having alot of attendees. You could just jump on any equipment and take off. I'm a SCAG kind of guy, but WOW was that new HUSTLER fast. Thanks to Lawn Godfather for putting it all on. Look forward to next time. I did miss all the dancing girls though.:p

TLS - LoneStarLawn - You bet thats a flex-deck on a Dixie, and Yes I was there, but nobody would challenge me. I let the ZTR's mow the flat ground all day, then I went out an mowed the ditch by the road and in fact domoed for people later that couldn't believe a ditch like that could be mowed with a 78" deck. I also had people mow the angle type swaths and around trees, but most people just watched.

10-24-2001, 10:49 PM
65 hoss The Ztr people did not offer a challenge. But it was a wonderful experience, and I met a lot of people that make their living mowing, and they appreciated what I have and are in fact helping getting some companies perhaps involved in the future. Thanks to all involved in putting the BBQ on. Brad.

10-25-2001, 12:36 AM
Sounds and looks like everyone had a great time. I wish I could have attended but to much work to do. Maybe next year. Be nice to have one of those in this area. What do you think, Kirby?

10-25-2001, 01:20 AM
Wish I coulda been there, looks like a good time.

So, did anyone try the walk behind with the Flex Deck on it?? I was really hoping to hear some reviews on it.

Thats too bad, it might have been interesting. Maybe you can figure a way to run it the exmarks. I wouldn't mind giving it the ole college try. A Z with the deck would definately take out your JD's.:D

10-25-2001, 01:47 AM
Brad, I watched you mow that ditch! I was nervous just watching you mow that with a garden tractor!

10-25-2001, 02:05 AM
Why were you nervous, I mow ditches worse than that every day. Most of my jobs have ditches worse than that. I did only have one person actually come over and watch the second and third time I did it though, because he has a lot of customers that need the ability to do such mowing. He was impressed. Thanks, Brad

10-25-2001, 02:10 AM
Yep! we were there! Great turn out all things considered. The Manufactures were great! They all liked to talk. Although the major brands semed to be there, you did not hear a lot of downtalking of the other guys macnine from the manufacture Reps. That was nice to see. I'm sure all thought they had a better product but everyone got along well. I over heard 1 particular CEO talking about how he liked a particular item on another manufactures machine and how he might try to "adjust " his units to match. We got to meet several of the guys and had some brief conversations. We tried out most all the machines and had something good to say about all of them. (Had to say a few bad things too). We tried out the Flex-deck on the JD455s. Impressed is a good word. We may end up adding a few to our fleet. Exmark had a WB with a aftermarket breater set up for dusty conditions. We really liked that idea! Toro had there SITEWORK equipment there. We really like that new tracked machine! Easy as pie to operate! All in all, we had a good time. Look forward to next years show. :blob3: :blob1: :blob4:

10-25-2001, 09:41 PM
Yes Barry, Gravely was there, and I talked to Todd? or who ever was the engineer at the BBQ. He demo'd the WB I had and was going to take back to your company what he thought. The WB did generate a lot of interest and am hoping to get with a company in the near future. Thanks, Brad

Hopefully next year i can get around to meeting fellow lawnsiters'
