Thinking about changing my lco name to "Forward & Backyard". Is it catchy :clapping: or is it lame:hammerhead:? Don't be shy. I think I can take it. Really though, thanks for any feedback.

Thanks for the suggestion. I might need you to break that one down for me...is Yard the connection between 'fore' and 'backyard'? As you might have figured out I'm not that creative with word play.

For-Yard-Back.....kind of strange but thats the first thing that came to mind plus a little shorter. ForYardBack LawnCare would be different

I am partial to no nonsense business names. Mine is simply (my last name) Lawn & Garden Services. Using my name lets people know that the buck stops with me, I put my name on my work, and I stand behind it. I'm not a big operation, and I don't want to sound like one. just MHO.

You make a strong point Whitey. I currently use my last name too, and am only having these thoughts because my wife is a teacher and has some reservations with me lettering my truck with our name. Even though the business is 3 years old I have stayed very small because I spend most days home with the kids(Mr. Mom) but hope to grow starting mid 2008. It just seems like now is a good time to address the name issue before I have to change too many things. The other reason is that I used 'Landscaping' after my name without thinking it labeled me as a contractor (which I am not). I don't want to draw any attention to myself for jobs I shouldn't be doing (rare). Anyway, thanks for the advise Whitey. Any other thoughts on the additional info are appreciated too.

Yep I like yours a lot....second place goes to the Two Clowns mowing company(lot of potential for logo on that one too.)

Thanks Broncobilly. I like the idea of something short, and adding a slogan isn't bad either. More importantly the package idea is a relevant one. Having a catchy name with logo and slogan is a nice way to get name recognition. I recall an earlier thread that brought up the same suggestion and am trying to follow that advice.

you do need something that will jump out and grab your customers unlike others. how about (grade school mowers) we learn slow but we always do it right the first time. good luck with your name it will change your business for the better.

Thanks 2-C.M. You know, just discussing the name thing brings up new ideas and new directions to take the name. I've been dwelling on this one for months now and hope I come to a conclusion soon. By the way, I love the logo!

Fahzu, to expound upon my philosophy, I agree, using the word landscaping isn't a good idea unless you are doing some hardscaping too. Two Clowns Mowing is pretty cool, and I like it, but it isn't for me. I want my name to be self explanitory. Does Two Clowns Mowing make it sound like they do well thought out fert and pesticide apps? Not trying to pick on you Two Clowns, just saying that catchy marketing names like that have their upside... and maybe with some potential customers, a down side impression. You simply cannot underestimate the stupidity of the general public!

I agree with the above post, and I also would like to say - don't even conSIDer the "frontwards to backwards stuff". The only thing even remotely close to that - that I've ever heard was a name for a cleaning company, and that was "Wall to Wall". But do you see how that fits a little better as to what this other name fits for a maintenance company?
Bottom line, there are just way too many cool names to come up with, even using YOUR name on it, that is straight forward and meaning business.

i have found women make the decisions about lawn care most of the time i'd say 95% of the time. and with a catchy name women will respond quicker to it than males. and thats why i came up with 2 clowns

This will be my first year in the business and I must say the hardest thing so far was trying to decide on a name. My family helped alot and the one everyone seemed to like the most was " Mow you over lawncare". I'm just not to sure how others will feel about this. So I figured I would ask all of you. Thanks

Mow you over...the first thought I got was being overwhelmed by price. I would also not use the term lawncare unless that was exactly what you are doing. (Technically, lawncare is the use of amendments and chemicals). If you are going to be doing mowing and and such, I would use lawn maintenance. Better yet, terms like property maintenance, landscape maintenance, landscape management, and a few others are better suited, as they broaden your spectrum.
