The best I can come up with at this time of day with my 1 month old son fussin' round on me is: "Hi, I'm Nate from Perfect Lawnscapes, and I was hoping you would like a free estimate on lawn and landscape maintenance." any suggestion would be appreciated.

A couple of thoughts, personally I wouldnt use "hoping" its to soft of an intro. I would be respectful of their time also. "Hello Sir or Madam my name Matt my company name is XYZ and we are providing free estimates in your area today. May I take 2 to 5 minutes to please provide your family with a free lawn maintenance estimate today. It will only take 2 to 5 minutes and it is completely without obligation."

If they say no its a win situation and if they say yes its a win situation. Your only purpose is to show them your face and provide them with a professional offer. Don't expect them to make a buying decision on the spot. I would also send them a follow up letter, supporting and highlighting your company BENEFITS.

Check with your city, make sure your not breaking any laws, you may need a license.

I was thinking the same thing. I understand that it could be a new flyer and all that but how can it be so revolutionary that it constantly brings new customers day in, day out? I guess I'm being very sceptical because i'm new and i'm tight for cash. Also, DeOldOne is the same person as TurfControl IMO (both from NC, TurfControl is a new user, etc...) Do you have a satisfaction guarantee?

Thanks.

I agree, a flyer is nothing more than a design on a sheet of paper. For $250 the flyer should be able to go around and distribute itself. Sounds like a lot of money for what it is.

Some of you guys are missing out. I am all about door to door. Its not only good excerise, but a way to really and cheap way to add alot of customers to your base. Plus it gives you a leg up on the competition because they have had a chance to meet you, and get a feel of your operation. I know here, TG hires over a 100 people at the beginning of the year, and they hit every neighborhood hard helping keep them #1. I just copy their philosophy and fine tuned it.

As for the going to jail comment, and door to door is dead, what planet are you guys on. Door to door has increase since the dont not call list was created. All the major company's are doing (i.e. ADT, Phone & Cable Co., Private Practice Dr. Ofc...etc). I am not sure how it is everywhere else, but Door to door is huge around here and I dont see a lot of LCO using this to their advantage.

Here are a few ideas on how to approach a prospect....

Hi, I am So and So with So and So LCO and we were just in the neighborhood doing a lawn anaylsis and Estimate for one of your neighbors and thought we would see if there was anyone else looking for a one stop shop Full service LCO.

Hi, I am So and So with So and So LCO and we are in the neighborhood providing Homeowners with free Lawn anaylsis and estimates.

Hi, I am So and So with So and So LCO, and we just signed up one of your for a Full Service Plan and wanted to see if you and your family needed a full service LCO to take the worry off you of having to keep track with 2 or 3 different company's for your Lawn and Garden needs.

There are more, but I will not tell all for free. But the key is not what you are saying in your pitch, but your body language and keeping a smile on your face. Oh, and it helps to be knowledgable, well dressed, and Up-front and Honest.

You have the right Idea and I wouldn't try to sell somthing unless I knew my stuff

Check with your city, make sure your not breaking any laws, you may need a license.

$10 for the year in my city, and in Springfield IL, you need no permit, just leave the property if someone tells you.

One question wheres the guarantee.

did you get into this business "knowing" how much money you'd make, so where's the guarantee? I've had great luck going door to door, but I've never sold for my own business (new). I thought my opening line was a little weak, that is why and what I asked in the beginning of this thread.Thank you cpel2004 and tjsquickcuts for your posts. You helped alot.

I've learned not to jump straight to 'DO you want an ESTIMATE?'. Instead, i start off with something along the lines of "Hello, my name is &%$##, owner of XYZ, a Lawn Care company. I wish not to sell you anything, but only say hello and inform you of our service." After that it typically drifts off to favorite teams, weather, nice house, or other stuff. Before leaving ask permission to get their name and number. That way you make a follow up call or mailing that reinforms them about you before the season. (plus it saves you from buying a mail list). I've done this once and the turnout was 11/100. (11%). My fathers a broker and i learned from him. Very effective if done correctly.

Perfect Lawnscapes the reason I would ask for a guarantee is based upon his/her claims. If someone is going to promise such high expectations then I would want some form or type of guarantee. If his system actually does what he's claiming, then I wouldnt have a problem paying him to come down and show me how it works. What I have found out in life is, if its to good to be true than it usually is a fraud. Let us know and my offer still stands.

Well they don't want me saying anything so I wont, Turst me it's that good, you guys don't really have a clue. It's not about going door to door and making up some fancy flyer. I'm able to put out a simple black and white flyer and everyday I'll have on avg 15 new accounts in which I'm doing work for them and they are leaving checks on the door for me. Anyway, I'll get deleted..............good luck with the door to door.

As T.O. Would say, "the proof is in the pudding".."and get your popcorn ready." What you all fail to realize is that any Joe can mow a lawn, but it takes a Pro to maintain the lawn and Landscape and thats what we offer, a professional service you can count on to meet all of your expectations. I have mention time after time how we will always go that extra mile to keep my customers happy. I tell everyone if your are not satisfied with our service then will we pay for your first month of service with another provider. I am confident enough with what I have established that I am not scared to give people high expectations. I am sure marketing strategy's are different in each state, but here in Atlanta door to door is a huge way to increase your customer base. Me personally I love talking to people have have a bit of a charming side that people naturally attrach too. So I use it to my advantage. But this subject has gotten old, but dont knock it until you have really tried it.

Most citys have a ordance against going door to door sales.Would this also apply to merely hanging door knob hangers?

Use an open ended question to get the conversation going they will either take the ball and run or they will shut you down and slam the door on you.

Have you made a decision on your lawn maintenance for the season?

Are you happy with your current lawn care professional?

What the hell happened to your yard?

Just something to get the conversation going.

People buy from people they like.

An opening line.... they worked well with women in bars, didn't they? NOT.

Be yourself, don't put on an act or go into a pitch. If a dog barks, say something about that... LOL, my dog does the same thing! Be natural. Smile, but don't fake it. Get your mind set so that you don't have to force a smile, just be glad that the door opened. I haven't started the door to door yet, but I will be honest and just say that I am a local landscaper and am canvassing the area to see if anyone might be interested in my services. I'm very good at what I do and offer more included services than most other companies do.

If they say not intersted, politley ask that they keep your flier for future refence, mention you are a good problem fixer and if you have difficult truf or shrub problem, please call me. Say thanks and move on. Try and leave them with a message they might think about after you leave..... "hmmm.... we do have that problem with our Rhodo in the back yard...."

One thing I know I will do.... I have a lot, I mean a lot of people with serious nut sedge problems here. When that stuff comes up, I'll knock on those doors for sure. "I noticed you have a problem with nut grass.... I can treat that. Are you interested?"

If all you are offering is mow and blows.... that's a lot more difficult to sell.

check with your local police department or city clerks office. it is $10 per year in my town w/ a background check. you don't need a permit for door hangers in my town.
