I have a 2003 walker mower with 267 actual hours. It is already burning a lot of oil on the front cylinder. I pulled the plug today and it was covered with carbon. The back plug looks great. I just rebuilt one of my other Kohler engines with same problem, but it had almost 900 hours. The 900 hour engine had a small oil leak that covered the fins of front head and clogged them up with dirt. The heat made the oil ring fail. I looked and the front fins on the 267 hr motor were clean. Any other idea why the engine might have started burning oil so soon. I am assuming that the oil rings have failed. just like the other engine.

Some thing is defiantly wrong 900 hours is very little

BLOWN head gasket.

Sounds like the classic blown head gasket at the oil return port, A cylinder leak-down test will verify this.

Makes sense to me. It seems like a lot of the newer v-twins burn a decent amount of oil. My friend had a Briggs Intek that would go through tons of oil.
