I just bought a 5x10x4 trailer (with string trimmer and ladder racks) for my second year, but now I'm thinking 5X12 or 6X12 would've been a better choice. I see some people here say buying a 5x10 is one thing they would've changed.

I have about 40 mow customers that will stay on from my 1st year and I'm looking to increase that to 80 for this year. Most are about .15 acre or smaller urban lawns so right now I only have 2 21's but I might get a 36 if things go well signing folks up this spring. As for the mowers I think my 5x10 would do fine.

I also do your average cleanups and leaf work plus lawn installs and things like that.

I guess I can always use more space for cleanups, but I can fit all of my equipment with plenty of room to spare right now on the 5x10.

I know everyone's circumstances are different, but just wondering if anyone is in a similar situation as me and is happy with a 5x10. Would you prefer bigger? Also do you think there are any benefits to a 5x10, better gas milage, easier to maneuver or fit into tight spots?

thanks

Sorry i dont have a 5x10 but i have a 6x10. It like everything has its advantages and disadvantages. the 10 foot length is great for me but an extra foot would be perfect. I have trouble getting both my mowers loaded, but i rarely ever use them both so its ok. I like that its short and i can get around pretty easily with it. Its got plenty of room for all my gear too. I think a 5x10 would work great for 2 21's and a 36, you shouldnt have a problem with all three on there. Good luck, hope it will work good for ya

thanks for the input.

For all of those who say to go with at least a 6x12 I'm assuming its because people outgrow the floor space. Anyone out there have sufficient floor space with a 5x10 but wish they had more room to haul materials and for cleanups?

If your only plans are to maybe add a 36" a 5x10 would be fine. It wouldnt make sense to pull a bigger trailer around for two 21's. That would be funny though. Its all relative, I run a 52" and a 60" ZTR's with all the trimmers and blowers, I often carry a bagger for the 52 on my 7.5x18 trailer. If you only have two 21's on your trailer you really have more room than I do.

Sure its a small trailer but it sounds like it will fit what you are going to use it for.

I hear ya about upgrading trailers. What are you carrying on your 5x10?

My trailer is only ordered right now. I talked to my guy today and I can still bump up the size. Price wise I can afford 5x12 or 6x10.

6x10 is probably the better bet, huh?

I would stay as small as you can at these gas prices....or only load what you need for the day. We use a 12 footer instead of our enclosed alot so long as the weather is ok.

I pull around 36" and 48" walkbehinds on one. Have to load 'em backwards so the handlebars go out over the front edge. I like it.

5x10 trailer is fine if your not planing on growing. If you want to get a rider and most of us go with a 60" its not going to fit because there about 61-62''s as far as the length at 10' if you have the side 4' you not going to get a rider and a walk-behind on you got to go with a12' at least so if your serious about it go with a 6'x12'.

I have a 5x14 and it is just too small! It is so frustrating trying to get my gear on my trailer!

I had to get the 5' wide because my garage doors are only 8' wide and the 6'6" was exactly 8' wide. I blow big monkey nuts at backing up and trying to put a 7' wide (5x14) into the garage is a real nightmare but the other would not have gone through the door without a running start and major damage to the walls.....:hammerhead:

If you can get a wider trailer and longer you will not regret having it! However you will regret to small/narrow.

Just like buying a gear drive WB and now I really wish I had gotten a hydro.....

Live and learn.

Its just like building a shop or garage. As soon as its done and everything is in its place. Whats the one thing you say? "I should have made it bigger". Thats my same opinion on trailers.
