Man that happen to me when I took over as maintenance dir @ landau! I did not know there was a back flow valve behind the jungle of bushes in the atrium that is in the center of the office open to the sky! One morning I opened the plant and water was gushing out both sides of the front office and the water was 2 feet high in the atrium! That was not good! The 2 24"x24" drains that where there had been covered by black plastic and covered with mulch by someone with no sense!

Judging by where that crack is, it looks like the ball valve was closed & water was trapped. Fortunately, you only have to replace the ball valve - if that is the only crack.

On a closer look you'll see water coming from the check area as well. Easy repair though being above ground.

Isn't it wonderful that the cheap plastic pipe didn't break first? :)

Pretty damned amazing it didn't. Does that mean SCH40 PVC is superior to brass. ;)

It cracked at the valve . When it was shut off inside ( or where ever) that handle should have been left at a 45 degree angle and it would not have cracked there.

Seems to always break the ball valve with the test port. Did the checks get damaged? That is when things get ugly. I remember when I could buy a rpz for just over $100. Now it is around $200.

It has 3 leaks #1 test ****, #1 shut off, and on the top of the body left of #1 check
There is an easy $500+ repair. Rock on, next year sign him up for a $150 winterization.
When you guys repair/replace backflows do you then add on the testing charge or include it.

Charge them for the repair, a new quick couple, and sign him up for winterization. Now your up in the $1000 range (my prices) plus the $150 blow out.
I like to think of it as the kick while they are already down.
