I just bought a new Bluebird S22 seeder to replace my older model. I was wandering if anyone else has purchased this model. I have had good luck seeding with the older model and this new model seems built better with more features than past models.

I'm actually thinking about that same unit myself. As much as I would like to purchase the Lawn Solution Hydro seeder I'm reluctant to spending another $3k+ this early in the game with little to no indication of local market demand for overseeding.
Anyhow what persuaded you to choose the Bluebird over a Clausen or other brand?

I already had an older bluebird and it has served me well. The new S22 looks like a good improvement with several upgrades over the older model. Most of the seeding or overseeding we do are under 10,000sqf and mostly level ground so didn't need to spend $3000.00 and more for a hydro unit. I have been using Bluebird seeders since the early 90s and are they the greatest seeders out there, no but with that said they get the job done and there not nearly as bad as everyone on here believes. Every seeding job we've have done with Bluebird seeders has turned out great, with no complaints and there easier to use than most would have you believe.

It's been mentioned here that the Husqvarna seeder is the same as the Bluebird. Any truth to this? The picture look similar but not the same.

Yes they are the same machine. Bluebird makes the seeder for Husqvarna and Classen seeder is the same as the older bluebird model. www.alamia.com has the Bluebird seeder for $1,150.00 and the Husqvarna model is the same except the price is a hundred dollars higher.

So is the Honda engine worth the extra $300? Typically what type of air cleaner do Hondas have vs. the Briggs?
I alway prefer oil soaked foam filters but I always use the motorcycle super tacky sticky stuff.

In my opinion I don't think the Honda engine is worth the extra money. My older seeder had the Briggs engine on it and I never had a problem with it in over 15 yrs of use. With proper maintenance any quality engine will last for years of trouble free use. Most of my commercial mowers have either Kawasaki, Honda and the Briggs Vanguard engines on them and I've never had a problem with any of them. I still have and use an older Hahn front tine tiller thats seen regular use from the day it was purchased. The tiller is 23yrs old and has a Briggs 5hp engine that even today starts on the first pull, its the best front tine tiller ever made even when compared to today's models. Sorry for the tiller thing I just wanted to let you know that Briggs engines are good and the S22 seeder w/ Briggs engine has a paper element filter.

Oh now I know I'm not the only one on this site to buy this seeder. How about some responses from those of you who have the new model.

Ok how about this Bluebird seeder vs. the Lawn Solutions hydro drive? How much more productive is the Lawn Solution hydro drive over the old school Bluebird? Any one here use both? Comparisons or any input?
Why should I buy the Bluebird over the Lawn solutions unit?
-or-
The other way around?

It really depends on how large the areas are your wanting to seed. I have used bluebird seeders for a long time and they have been very reliable and good seeders. I wouldn't recommend using them for large properties over 15,000sqf but under that they serve us well. You could do large properties with the S22 and get good results but lawn solutions seeder would be more productive and easier to use. If your going to be doing a lot of seeding jobs and larger areas and the seeder is going to see lots of regular use then lawn solutions is the way to go. If your doing small to medium size lawns the bluebird is the way to go. The lawn solution seeder cost over $3,000 compared to the Bluebird at $1,150 and both will give good results. It really comes down to how much your going to use it.

Not sure what year but I just rented a Bluebird Slit Seeder, one with the hopper in the rear, and the other had the hopper in the front. I love the model with the hopper in the front. Seemed to lay the seed much better. But you sure have to muscle this things. Well see how well the yard turns out in several weeks.

I think bluebird makes a lot of them. My Toro is the same thing because we got some paint chips and sure enough there was blue paint underneath the red. lol We have had good luck with ours unless you are pushing it uphill. Then it makes you work. Small areas it is good. Large areas we will rent a 3pt model for our tractor. I have used rental yard hydro units too. They are nice but take a bit to get used to or they too can make you work. They seemed to put the seed in the soil better in our hard clay. Not worth the money to buy for the handful of jobs we do each year. I would rather save up and buy one for the tractor.

As you can see in my signature I ended up buying the Bluebird S22 seeder. I've used it as a seeder about 4 times. I usually broadcast the seed with a belly grinder Earthway spreader. Then I use my Plugr 850HD aerator then I use my S22 with the seeder bar to work in the seed along with the plugs as a top dressing of sorts. Yes steep hills are a bugger. If I end up doing a ton of reseed & over seed jobs this fall I will go with the Lawn Solutions unit next year. Honestly I've made waaaay more $ using the S22 as a power rake with the Spring Tine bar. Most all of the original spring tines have broken and have been replaced.
I have no regrets buying it and I would do it again. :waving:
ps
I went for the Honda engine. FWIW I use a light coating of motorcycle super tacky foam air cleaner oil and it keeps the Honda filter virtually squeaky clean. I had a huge amount of piled up crud on the prefilter when I cleaned it last week.

I have the PR22 and I like it...its virtually the same unit with a different flail. The only thing that sucks is that mine came with a bagger and it doesnt bag.

Exact Rototilling,
I just bought the Lawn Solutions Revitilizer, and yes it is $3,200.00, but I am a one man operation and I keep equipment for many, many years, and take excellent care of my machnes. I bought an Xmark 48" Zero Turn HP 10 years ago, (1998) and I still use it everyday, and it looks like it is 2 years old. Getting back to the Powerseeder, I am sure the Bluebird is a fine machine and will give you good results, and it is almost half the price of mine, The Lawn Solutions Revitilizer, but I wanted a machine that was easy to handle, makes the job, no matter how large or small, manageable and productive. This Hydro machine is as easy to handle as a Hydro mower. I love the pistol grip handles and the foward and reverse control on the right handle. It has a 9hp Subaru engine, which is powerful!! It has a pressure release valve in the rear when you want to push it around without having to start it up. It also has a operator safety line that you attach, (if you want to), to your belt and if you should fall or become detached from the machine, it pulls the safety line and cuts the power completely, immediately. I guess if you cannot powerseed and chew gum at the same time this is a good feature. I used it twice so far and I beleive it is worth the extra money, considering, like I said, I will never have to buy another one, so this is a one time investment for me. Good luck with the Bluebird, I am sure yo will do fine with it. If you have any ??, don't hesitate to ask me. You can send a PM if you prefer.
