How in the HELL do you guys run 8mph and stay in the seat? I rented a Walker and could only run about half without my teeth knocking together and trying to stay in the saddle. What's the big deal to get a mower that mows at 10MPH when you can't hold on anyway. Just wondering.

Mowman, we have a torogroundsmaster that doesn't mow that fast, but in travel mode on our bumby fields it does the same, I find it more of a comfortable ride with the seatbelt on. I think these are offered on some walkers as an accesory or you could easily add one.<p>----------<br><a href="http://communities.msn.com/guidosequipmentpics/">"Guido"</a><br>David M. Famiglietti

Mowman: Before you buy that Walker, get a demo on other mowers and find out for yourself. The bigger the mower, the wider it is, and the heavier it is. You end up with a smoother ride and the seat makes a big difference too. My new XWD 2600 Chopper has 25" by 12" tires and the ride is great at 12 MPH on some of the roughest propertys we have. Demos are free and I've heard more than one guy say, you can't mow at those speeds, until you try it. Then they change their minds. Just ask Lynn, he was a Grasshopper user till he bought a DC Flatlander that mows at 13 MPH. A small mower with little tires is going to be rough riding at slow speeds. I've had small riders, I know.<p>----------<br><a href="http://pages.prodigy.net/eric.erickson/">Eric@ELM</a><br>

It's BS. rarely can you go 10mph. That is "travel" speed. Sometimes with wide open flat land, you can cruise, but few mowers that go that fast, and cut that fast. Some do however. 6-6.5 mph is more like it.

With my Lazer mowing at full speed is done on certain properties. Others no way.<br>Its just depends on the roughness and the length of the grass.

i can go full speed on my z master and have a great cut quality if the lawn id fairly smooth but on those really bubmp ones especially when the soil is dried out i cant mow full speed because the deck will start bouncing up and down since its only hangling with chaines.

Get A FERRIS with Independent Suspension!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Full speed on non-fertilized lawns, a little slower on fertilized lawns.

steve, when i was in the market for a ztr last fall i tried the ferris i/s. I only tries it on the dealers lawn so i cant really say if it is that much better on bumpy lawns but i can tell you the cut of the ferris was not as nice as the cut on the z master i went with. I only have a few lawns that are so bumpy that the decks flops if i go full speed.... easy solution.... dont go more than 6mph on those real bumpy lawns. all three are 1/4 acre anyway.

you can also let some air out of the tires; it will soften the ride. Just watch it on hillsides like that, & don't let out too much.......<p>----------<br>Smitty ô¿ô<br>

I don't care if you can go 10mph with a mower and have good cut cause I would like to see a customer look out there window and see me going 10mph on there lawn I think they would have a heart attack and I would be out of a lawn. Besides it is not safe you have to look for sprinklers, rocks, and sticks. I do like the walker it is quite the rave here in Florida seems like everyone has one. I almost bought one but I bought a Z-Master but when I look into a new mower I will probably buy one because I can run a lot of different size decks on the same mower that would keep a lot of expenses down. Sorry to get of the subject.

The lawn at my home is about 7acres,1/2 is smooth and 1/2 is a little rough.but not rea; bad.On the smooth part I mow at 10 mph with my dixie chopper, the only time I slow down is if the motor pulls down below 3550,which isnt much with 25 hp.It takes me 50 minutes to mow the smooth part to the left of my driveway(3 1/2 acres and almost 2 hours to cut the remainder of it.My neighbors are so impressed with the speed and cut that they will be my next customers soon. <p>----------<br>John D<br>

Even the slower Exmarks & Bobcats advertise 3.5 acres an hour; Dixies will mow flat ground even faster.<p>----------<br>Smitty ô¿ô<br>

Gene: The next time your in the Chicago area during the summer, look me up. I'll do it for you. We mow the lawns on my site fast and I've been told they look OK. It does depend on how smooth a lawn is and how well you know the lawn your mowing. If your mowing a lawn with rocks projecting out of the ground and big holes in it, you need to go slower, but the lawns we mow don't have these problems. You need sharp blades daily to mow at higher speeds too.<p>----------<br><a href="http://elmlawnsite.com/">Eric@ELM</a><br>

Gene,If you come to NY I will prove it too,my smooth side is 1000ft long by 156 ft wide,I measured it with a wheel and have my survey to back the wheel up.there are 4 trees and a shed to go around as well as 4 mulch /flower beds.It is 3.5 acres and I can do it in 50 minutes easily unless I let it get 10 inches high.It is 35 passes with my 60" machine, and if you dont believe it can do that then you need to try one to be convinced.<p>----------<br>John D<br>
