I hear guys talking about the ability to switch to a high idle with thier Duramax...Is this an option on certain trucks?
Mine is an 03 Duramax but I dont see any way to make it idle at 950 instead of 650.

This feature can be turned off and on using the DIC
steering wheel control buttons. If your vehicle is
not equipped with the DIC steering wheel control
buttons, doing the following to turn on this feature:
1. Turn the ignition to the run position, with the
2. Press the accelerator pedal to the floor and hold
while quickly pressing the brake pedal three times
in less than eight seconds.
3. Release the accelerator pedal and start the engine.
When the engine is started, it will slowly ramp up to
the high idle speed after a delay of a few seconds up to
approximately two minutes. For this method to work
properly there must be no throttle or brake pedal faults.

On the subject of the high idle.. Can anybody tell me what the reason for this is. I have read it somewhere.. but have not been able to find it again.. I would appreciate the enlightenment.
On some diesel's if you idle them more than a few minuets you want to idle them higher to avoid cylinder wash down, At idle more fuel than there needs to be gets into the cylinders and washes away the oil causing premature wear. Somebody with more knowledge might be able to chime in and ad to this.

my 2000 powerstroke will high idle to warm up when cold and kick back and forth on its own

The D Max high idles to warm up. The manual says it high idles when its below freezing and the coolant temp is below 160f ( i believe, not sure). Kind of cool to hear one idle up on its own.
