The XXWD5000 has been out for a few years now. I do know of a guy in southern Illinois that has 2 of them, but I don't think he is a LS member.
I do know several members that have a 72" Chopper, but they have either a 25 Kohler, or the twin 20's which is a 40 HP Chopper and we do have a member with 2 XXWD2600's.
I would think the Turbo Yanmar would have to be nothing but a great engine. I'm on my 3rd Yanmar and have had great luck with them and still have 2 of them.

A group of us went down to the factory for a tour this weekend and I saw several XXWD5000's that just came off the line. I talked to the chief of the diesel line and they have lots of orders for them.
Here is a picture of 2 of them as we walked in the door.
Since you were at the factory did you get to try or see a 26 efi on a dixie and if so how was it. Also, any word on them putting a 31 hp gas engine on a dixie.

From what I heard the XW2600 EFI was at Louisville. They had one at St. Louis too and yes, they are in full production. They had EFI's all over the place. Yes I have driven the XW2600 for over a hundred hours and I like mine a lot.
The Generac won't be in production til July.
Oh so you have a 26 efi now is this replacing your xwd2600, are you going to put any pics up on you page. The reason I ask is because I will be getting another dc and want something with the power for the heavy spring grass.

I currently run a 26 diesel. and a 25 Flatlander. The diesel has more power when comparing wet and thick grasses. It keeps on mowing, versus the gas tends to bog down. I have put 500 hours on it this season, and am preparing to pick up a 50hp soon. Its hard to switch back to gas after feeling the power behind the diesel.

I agree with you Kevin. The diesel power and fuel mileage is awesome.

Go diesel - I run 455 JD's with yanmar 22 HP and they are so fuel efficient and so lugging that once you go diesel you will never go back to gas.

I have test drove two of these machines and are a nice running unit. They are 41hp instead of the 50hp everyone seems to think they are.
I just bought a couple months ago another make with a 32hp diesel and I do not know why you would want or need anything more. I can consistently mow in my large area smooth accounts at 15mph and not mis a beat, it will take tall wet grass and not hardly even change the tone of the engine!

I believe that the 50hp deisel is 50hp, but it is 41hp before the turbo. They added the turbo and that boosted it up to 50hp. Still Great mower if it is actual 41hp but I feel it is 50 hp. I don't think DC would be that decieving. Who knows

It's 41 hp and 50 hp with the turbo

Anyone know how much the 50hp is gonna cost?

The best price I've heard in Iowa is $14,500 which is about $1,000 cheaper than a lot of dealers. ;)

The yanmar owners manual says that it is 41.4hp!
03-24-2002, 05:51 PM
Ok, I went to the Yanmar website and found out the information. Yes, the yanmar is 41.4 hp at 3000rpm's though. Dixie turns it up to around 3,600-3750rpm's to get the extra Hp. The yamar has 39hp at 2,800rpm's

According to the dixie dealer here the 41.4hp yanmar comes running at 3000rpm from dixie the 23.8hp yanmar comes running at 3750 from dixie!

Do they burn a lot of diesel/hr? A 50hp diesel mower seems a bit overkill. Don't bobcat skid steer and kabota tractors have smaller engines. Plus $14.5k seems like a lot of money. After financing the thing it will end up costing you over 20k. You can buy some new trucks for that price.

my local dealer say's that the extra hp come from what he calls a torque kit.
which is non stock diameter pulleys makeing the equivalent of 50hp. of torque to the blades & pumps. anybody heard this one?
03-26-2002, 07:12 PM
I have never heard of that one.
