I'm knockin around the walls here. Anyone going to the NSLGA conference/show at the Nassua Coliseum on March 4? It's my last chance to look at which blower, edger, hedge trimmer and WB I will buy right after the show.

By the way, if you do go to the conference, I'm a clean shaven 50 year old Irish lookin guy wearing a brown leather jacket and jeans with white hair and average build, a bit on the short side... like 5'9". It would be interesting to meet anyone from the site. I plan on picking up 3 credit hours in the sessions. The rest of the time I'll be on the floor handling equipment! Yeeha!

Which one? There's like a gazillion of them going for the next two weeks! But no, I didn't. I was at home doing pH tests!

Actually, I disagree. Show me a lawn with a soil pH of 5.5, and I'm putting lime on it as soon as I can (when the ground is beyond risk of freezing). I do my pH testing now for my annual quotes. I try to talk my customers into watching me do it on site. Once I make that offer, they always pass. It builds trust right up front.

I also use an expensive pH meter. I even carry a RapidTest cheapo with me to show them how it only measures the pH of the water you used to make a slurry. I measure the water, make a slurry, measure again... same reading.

Then I get my good instument... and show them how it all works. I even carry some lemon juice to demonstrate.... but once I tell my customers what I will do, they never want to witness the test. They know 1) I am not a rip off artist, and 2) am worthy of their trust and 3) know what I am doing.

While this is a sales technique, it isn't a bunch of BS either. I AM worthy of their trust.... and they know it. Then, when I suggest a fall over seeding, most just say do it. I don't even have to quote it out first most of the time.

It's simple.... I treat their properties the same way I do my own.

Well, that was quite the soapbox lecture, wasn't it? I'd better lay off the vino, or I'll miss a lecture I want to catch tomorrow morning!

Lime takes 6 months to move 1" down through the soil profile. It's never too early or late for lime. You limey bastages!

Hey Jeff, I'm still waiting for my check so I can pack up my bags and retire already.

Anyways, if you guys ever have any large mulch jobs and need a blower... shoot me an email. I have some good deals on mulch/topsoil and will take care of you on blower charges.
