Sometimes we get all excited when we add up the numbers after a long day. I do too. But after you add in the hours of maintenance on equipment, phone time, sittin' on the computer, figuring out taxes, mailing invoices and bills, the dollars per hour don't seem to great anymore. I don't want to think about it right now.

I read Matthews reponse and got a chuckle thinking about what would happen to the bottom line for us "LawnGeeks" that are continually looking for information on the net.
If thats the case its about $2.50/hr plus tips LOL!!! Many guys take a salary just as if they were working for another company. The rest stays with the company. I hear alot of guys in our area say that when all is said and done they're about 35k for the year. Its not as glamorous as one might think.

Here is a man who now knows he has overhead. He recognizes he has non production hours spent working for no particular job, he must do it and he can't bill anyone directly for those hours.
There for he must figure what he should earn for those hours and average them across the billable ones in the field. It's called overhead recovery and only one of many items in overhead that needs to be calculated and recovered in an organized plan.
Harold's Rule: "Pay unto yourself as your would have others pay unto you". Or "if your don't ask for it you won't get it!"
Plan on.

My wife hates it when I work 14 hours at work then come home and spend 2 on this site. so now, while answering the phone at work and scheduling guys and in between bids and while paying bills and all the other mumbo jumbo, I do this.
Would hate to try and figure out an hourly wage. If I can pay my bills without truly living paycheck to paycheck and take some time off every week with the family, it really doesn't matter anyway right/
