my one prop manager asked me for last second pricing...

they had an irrigation system installed mid summer last year and want me to add startup and shutdown to my responsibilites for this year.....i priced the system to install way back when and its

24 zones, and approx. 2900 feet of pipe, one control box

is $400 in line for a blowout? or what would you charge (im pretty sure a $160 dollar tow-behind rental is in store) ALSO what is normal for startup...hourly pricing to run through the zones, make sure it all works? or flat rate?

i have to submit my pricing for tomorrows approval.. (i may sub it out...but with time constraints dont have the ability to call around tonight)

thanks!

ive done blowouts on a larger scale before while working for a large company (9 boxes, 15-25 zones per box) and we charged 600, and took one man all day....but this box company is too cheap for everything...

Pricing varies from region to region...

call some of your competitors and see what they say???
..Do you know what your doing?

You could give a fixed number for the year, not including the T&M for repairs. I'd guess at least $600, but you do have to consider your local market.

The eclipse last night caused a wrinkle in the time-space continuum causing a event based leap year adjustment of 24 hours.

Assuming Silver is out in the field, this will all be useless to him, since its due today.

Bootsies, did you pull that from your word for the day calendar?

bloviate: To bloviate is to speak pompously and excessively.

Bootsies, stop trying to absquatulate this topic.

haha im here, im dropping this years numbers off at 3pm..thanks for the help

i stuck to my 400 for shutdown and 250 for startup and readjustment of zone times throughout the year (which shouldnt have to be messed with that much) i did repairs at 45 an hour plus materials (its a commercial site so there wont be anyone there with a stopwatch timing me)

but yeah ive done many-a-repair before, i know the signs of breakage, i know my way around adjusting heads and had experience with a few different types of controllers, as for a shutdown ive watched it done before with remote controls, the only thing im not sure of is how to actually hook the compressor up to the system i read http://www.johndeerelandscapes.com/_Professional_R_S/_Articles/Arti_winter.asp and it gave me a little more insight, but like i said i might sub it out whern the time comes so i can learn, and bid it at 400 so hopefully i dont lose my butt

You want to be charging more than 45 an hour for repairs. For non-residential work, I'll charge more than twice that much.

We have a flat rate of 85 hr., res. or commercial. Make sure the client
is aware the system will need a survey & repairs made before the service
contract can be in effect.

gotcha, ill do it at 65 an hour, i used to be tight with another management company and saw what some other people would charge......one branch of rainmasters and gar.....den irrigation and they were at 45 plus mats....so thats where i got that number from

and i take back how i said "the only thing im not sure of" ....theres tons of stuff im not sure of

Non-residential rates can be based, to some degree, on the principle that nobody really wants the job (for cheap) - I'm always at least 20% higher for non-residential service.

Your rate will depend on your market. Too high, you'll be without work, too low and you run the risk of being labeled a low-baller.
