I picked up this Ford Ranger to do estimates and other small running around so I wasn't always driving my big trucks. The Problem is that it gets the exact same MPG as my 3/4 with a fully loaded trailer. Its a 4 cyl. with 8 spark plugs. I changed the air filter and I cut the muffler off and straight piped it. I left the Cat converter still in place and I'm thinking I should have cut that out as well. Its totally gutless and it only pulls off 15 MPG. I like to resell the truck but it takes 8 weeks to get the title bad from processing from me buying it. I'm pissed.

I would venture to say the cat it bad. See what happens when you take off or replace the cat.

check the air ducting that feeds the filter box...
maybe there is a dead cat or a chipmunk nest blocking it up...
Auto or stick?
sounds way off at 15mpg

I have '94 ranger with 2.3, 5 spd averaging 24-25 mpg. Something wrong with your truck. Yours averaging worse than my 4.9, 300-6 150!

Could be the O2 sensor.
