I saw a couple of months ago a picture of this mower in a magisine and it really looked like it might be a good mower. Its made by Great Dane and it is a walkbehind that has a cutting width of 52'' so far this mower does not sound very interesting, but! What really makes this mower interesting is the fact that more that half the deck actually folds up 90 degrees. That means that you can get through a 36'' gate and then fold the deck back and cut a large swath where before you could only cut a maximum swath of 36''.Does anyone know when Dane is going to release this mower for sale?If anyone has seen any info on this mower I would like to know about it!
THANKS!
from:Adam
AB Lawn Care

I only remember one person from this site mentioning that they had one. I recall he liked it for what it was for.
There were a couple dealers out this way selling them for $4K last season. I almost bought one.

does anyone know if you can cut with the wing up or do you have use the full 52" deck when cutting.....I have some areas that the 52" would be more hassle....but if you could use just the main 36" deck....might work

Casey, on the Gateway it has to be down. Can't cut with it up.

I looked a one over a year go, but the dealer told me that it would not fit through a 36" gate because it is almost 38" wide when folded up. I stopped looking after that.

I have seen and demo'd the Hustler Gate Master. This is a wonderful machine. If you are serious about something that can cut 48" wide, then flip up and go through a small gate then this is the machine for you.
Click on the Hustler forum and see it for yourself. I know they say it wont be out till summer, but I do feel it will be well worth the wait.

Agreed.
Or an Exmark or any other brand hydro 32" or 36" with a Flex-Deck.

I think I am the only one on the site with a Gateway. I have used it for 2 seasons with no break downs. 575 hours. It is 37.5 with the side up. No you can't mow with it up.
If you are starting out buy this mower with a proslide and you have a very productive machine. It will mow at 7mph.

Here is the 36 Hydro Viking eXmark with a flex-deck -
1st pic - transport pos - adds 1 3/4" but is on the front corner so can be put thru gate first at slight angle
2nd - mowing flexed up - it also flexes down 10 degrees to hang over culverts, pond banks and more - http://36X

how does the price of the viking with a flex deck compare with the gate-way machine......and is there any difference as far as reiliablity....not sure how I feel about adding a deck to a machine that is not intended for it.....compared to a machine that should be built from the ground up for the additional deck

i am sure this question has been asked before but here goes anyway......does the flexdeck compromise the manufacturers warranty in any way......do you know if exmark dealers are allowed to install them.....

Casy - The Flex-Deck in priced this winter at $1099 - shipping included - If you have to hire a welder, plan on spending 4hrs of his time (whatever he charges/hr) - If you weld yourself, the mounting manual is very selfexplanatory:
I would recommend though that you bring it to me if possible - $99 mounting fee:
If the manual is followed, you deck will be as strong as original if not stronger.
Add the price of a 36" Hydro Viking eXmark (I bought one for $4000 + tax) + $1099 + mounting (say $200) = $5299 + tax for a 54" mower that trims way more places than a dane, and floats with the terrain to lessen scalping
We can put an eXmark blade under the flex-deck so it all mowes exactly the same.
How much is the 52" dane
Thanks, Brad
