I got a phone call yesterday from my local CAT salesman. Seems they are PDIing 256 completely loaded in Wa. and are sending it out here with the regional compact equipment specialist. They want to schedule a demo next week sometime.

Great timing as that commercial job will need to be backfilled.

I found this a little interesting given our last conversation. I did not think I would hear from him again. I think QPS called CAT and helped. I don't know why I just have a feeling.:nono:

Here I thought it might have been Ed McMahon with the sweepstakes check, or Howie Mandel or Who Wants to be a Millionaire OR maybe QPS calling you to say that is the best hat he has ever owned and since having that hat his business has increased 100%.....

As far as the call from CAT, that doesn't surprise me at all. You initially caught them off-guard - so they acted defensively, they have soaked on it awhile and see an opportunity.......

Howe is trip. I would like to hire one of the briefcase models to do collections for me. I somehow think, I would get my money. Mrs. K would not be too hip on it but hey. I hope that CASE hat brings QPS great fortune. It was one of my favorites. It had a picture of a kid with a CASE hat on peeing on a CAT symbol. OK I kept that hat, but still his was cool.:clapping:

What did I tell you? I had arranged for that machine to leave WA and head your way. Told them you were a high roller and you only buy new iron. Also told them you were in the market for a new 15 ton excavator. I personally checked out that 256 last week, it should be good to go for your needs. Send me your praise later.

High roller yea. Starving in the "land of plenty" is more like it. When you checked out the machine Scag did you insert a "can of man" into that machine? Its is gonna need it.

Keep that machine in perspective, it's a 2400 ROC class machine with 82 horses. I'd be willing to bet the 272C would give your 465 a good run.

I shoulda left you a Cat hat in the cab.

I honestly will give him 1 hour. I know he will sit in it long enough to draw a conclusion about the degree of hate. I know when I first started running my buddy's Gehl 5640, I didn't like it that much, now it's not so bad. We all know he's not going to like this machine, might as well come to grips with that.

Yea I told them to match their machine to the 440. Judging by the spec sheet, the 256 would be more closely matched to a 450 as far as ROC although a lot lighter. Hp wise the 256 and 440 match pretty closely. It is the torque I will most interested to see. The spec sheet says 217 for CAT and 265 for the CASE. I am curious to see how it runs. CASE dealer here has ordered some Series 3 machines, when I will get to run one who knows. I will demo one before I make a decision. It would be nice to have them side by side. I plan on taking notes.

Tim, I am lover not a haterd.:dancing: If I like it I will pass that along just as I did with the Bobcat 220. It was the first Bobcat that I ran that would at least consider buying. I actually even got a price quote on it before buying the 440. It was cheaper than the CASE, but of course it was not significant enough of a difference or good enough in the performance area to buy (compared to the 440, by itself however it was not bad at all), however I did consider it.

We will see what the 256 can do. I will have my 440 on that backfill more than likely so at least I can compare those two although not exactly similiar.

I have a 252b and i am looking to trade it in on a A300. I just use the machine for clearing brush and mowing on my farm. I would like peoples thoughts comparing a bobcat 300 to say a cat tired loader.

I have a cat 252b which i use around the farm from moving hay to clearing brush. My lease is running out and i am thinking about buying a bobcat A-300 so when i mow i don't tear up the ground as bad. I have always been a cat man but i thought i would change up, maybe. Is bobcat as good as cat tired machines?

If you're worried about tearing up grass, you shouldn't be mowing that grass with an 8.000 pound machine.

Probably some truth to that. Sounds more like a compact tractor job ideally but if you have the machine that can do it why not. The A300 is a lot of machine to cut grass with both in terms of size and cost. With the right tires and the ground not being real wet I would guess it would do fine. I only know of one machine being used out here. It is at a County recycling facility. They have had some issues with the it but that is a very tough application. It certainly would not be on the same lines as what you would do with it.

As far as which is better, that would likely be for you to decide, we all have our thoughts as you will likely hear. You could demo a new C series Cat and Bobcat and see what you think. If you would post it so we can all learn for what your thoughts are that would be great.

Stick with Cat, much better quality, no loose pins after 300 hours, no dust in the cabs and better hydraulic systems for handling heat.

Shane...Shane...you and I and Scag:laugh:..all know that the thought of buying any other product except CASE may have went through your mind like a fart in the wind....or how fast is the speed of electricity?? something like 187,000 miles a hour.....that thought was faster than that:cool2:

I typed up a response, but Lawnsite was being antsy and didn't let me post... now I lost what I wrote.

In a nutshell, I want a thorough report with pictures! And make sure all pressure-settings are correct and try out the pattern changer (top-left corner of cab; should be a rocker switch that reads 1-2).

I would be willing to bet someone "enlightened" that salesman and strongly suggested that he give you that demo. It might have been his wife, boss, or...? Funny though, how things work.

Hell, screw the pictures, lets see some video! Nothing like a little Case/Cat porn. Just make sure the 440 tells the 256C "Don't call me, I'll call you":dancing: (The same thing you'll probably end up telling the Cat salesman)

Personally if they was good enough to let me demo ,at least do your best to do a fair comparsion as to what you expect out of the machine and what you got(which i beleieve you will).Run the two machine togather.Do your antilizing.

The call the Cat saleman up and show him why you decided which machine was to your liking and why.To me it needs to be a show him thing, not just your words.

Don't know if he has even run a machine or not,or even if you Case saleman has or not? Hell get both them out there and let them learn how to run a skid then maybe they will find out what the competitions really got over the other one! Maybe it will make a better saleman out of them??? Well maybe:rolleyes:

Main thing i see is if he is willing to bring and demo a machine, just don't try to do it for the sake of getting to use the extra machine for work to me.

I think you will do a good comparision,or at least i hope so.Hopefully it doesn't get to be a pssssn match over something or it won't be worth it,or at least wouldn't be to me.

Good luck, hopefully things will go as planned.:usflag:

You will be moving up in weight with the 300. Good engine, fair torque, and decent cab but you will have to seal it up yourself to keep the dust out. compared to a B series, I think the Bobcat cabs and ease of entry are much better and seem to hold up well. I have run 3 s300's and a toolcat which has AWS. That can be a nice thing to have but it isn't necessary mowing unless you are mowing a yard or golf course in my opinion.
