Does anyone know how many cu. yards are in a stock truck bed. I'm thinking of getting a dump bed and was wandering how much room I was going to lose.

I've fit 2+ yards of mulch in the back of my 2500hd. another time 2 yards of dirt.

I remember a thread from last year about this. Some did not agree on a number. Kind of funny. I looked but didn't find it.

I have an insert in a F-250 and the mulch place says its 3 yards. I have 2 2x8's for side walls. I think it is a little bit more, more like 3 1/2 yards per load FUll

depends on what you mean... floor space/area or loading capacity. floor space will be 4 ft (or alittle less) @ the floor however load capacity will be the same, or more with side panels installed. dump inserts are great... i wouldn't be without one again. if you need more "floor space", i'd invest in a small trailer. if "funds" are limited, you can always pick up a nice used one. good luck. have a good one.

If your truck bed is 8'l x 5'w x 2' d
then just multiply those numders and divide by 27

8x5x2=80 cubic feet
80 divided by 27 = 2.96 cubic yards

This may not be the size of most full size pickup beds, just an example!
And don't forget to subtract about 5% for the wheel wells.
Most pickups will hold 2 cu yds leveled and 3 cu yds heaped and packed down with the loader bucket.
Hope this helps you!

2-3 in truck bed and 5-6 in ez dump insert I find it easier to pay the mulch place to deliver for $25 for anything over 10
