Well since the previous post got negative replies let's try this. I can get a Scag Sabre with 130 hrs. demo for 12K plus tax, a Toro 25 Kubota for 9300 + tax, or a Bad boy 28Hp CAT for 12500 + tax. Lets hear some ups and downs of the mowers the quality of cut, reliability, and the all around mower. If possible i would like to see a pic of the turbo force cut and the bad boy cut. Never seen a good picture of either as far as cutting wuality.

When did Toro start putting Kubota Diesels in their ZTR's, the Kubtoa dealership here in Memphis where I purchased my Kubtoa MX6800 tractor, is a Toro dealer, When I was looking at ZTR diesels last year he said to avoid the Toro diesels Diahtzu? his exact words "high maintance diesel" get the Kubota if Toro has changed diesels. Cats are heavy 4 banger the 70ftlbs torque is not worth the weight penalty the dealer says folks are complaining there tearning up the turf & getting stuck.

Bang for the buck---toro.
We demoed one of them with the 23 kubota and power was a little low but the rest of the machine was decent with excellent cut quality from the turbo force deck. I'd say better than the velocity plus deck on our '07 turf tiger.

With the extra 2 hp I'd put the toro high on that list even without the price difference.

Sounds like a true kubota dealer! I have dihatsu engine it has been the most maitainance free engine I have ever had! Most of the diesel mower useres here are mostly dihatsu with kubota and yanmars also used in the area!

The Bad Boy is by far the most bang for your buck. A Ferris ride, and a Cat diesel for the same price as a gas mower from exmark. You might check the pricing though. The retail on the 28hp Cat is $11295 with the 60" deck. It is posted on their website also. The 35 hp 4 Cylinder with a 72" Deck is $12695. That is the most expensive mower they have. The one your looking at might have extra options, and they might add the set-up and destination in with the price.....dunno. This next week their financing promos kick off too. 0% for 2 years, 2.9% for 3, and my favorite 6.9% for 60 months. Your payment would be around $250 a month with nothing down on the massive diesel. You will have no regrets whatsoever.

that price was with the ROPS, chute blocker, light kit, and also the flat free front casters. i tend to hit a few roofing nails somewhere every now and again. PLUS my dealer told me with out all the options it was going to run 11800.... Is he just marking it up more or what????

Probably. Still an unbeatable price at $11,800! See how much more the 35hp is! It's got 20lb-ft more of torque!

That is prolly with the set-up and destination charge figured in. I would ask though, it never hurts to ask to save a few bucks. Bad Boy is one of the few factory's that lets you buy factory direct, but you still pay full retail. I have learned in my experience, it is always better to buy from your local dealer and establish a good relationship for future reasons, but that does give you a little fire power under your belt, I know that would scare the crap out of me...lol. But seriously though, your set-up and destination would be the same from the factory also, so that is prolly why the price is a little higher. $495 sounds like a reasonable cost to get it down there.

We've always used Toro Diesels. It is true they have kubota in their models, but our best expirence has been with the pegout (SP?) in a Toro 455. Out of those three I'm going with Toro because their Turbo Force deck in my opinion is the best out there.

I always had a problem justifying the additional initial cost of a diesel. We cut only warm season grasses and about all of our properties are flat. Just don't need the torque. We cut in sandy lots as well and most of our decks start giving out way before the motors.

hello,
if u call the diahatsu diesel high maintenance whoa !!!
The kubota and diahatsu engines have the same basic maintenance schedules .Both r old fashioned non direct injection =very basic

The diahatsu with the turbo in the 31, 34 turbo versions had some small issuses but so does kubota when a turbo is fitted .

The basic version of these engines [non turbo ] are good and reliable

The kubota 900cc and the diahatsu 950cc engine produce the same power [with in 3% ] of each other 23 net hp. All other advertising is bull sh#t . Reference is the engine makers www sites

As the engine fitted to the Bad Boy is larger 1.13 ltrs ,this is the preference if hp is a priority .

Remember that a 90 degree gearbox is fitted to the exmark /toro [mule belt ] .Not a good idea . This occurs on the kubota equipped machines .

The diahatsu machines do not have this [what a relief ]

The scag has a shaft driven deck via 90 degree box on deck [some problems have occured with the box ]

sorry the toro is last years model with the 23hp kubota. Does any one have any thoughts on that mower. I am leaning to it. It is the cheapest mower and i hear great things from the deck and mower but the dealer is the furthest away out of the three with scag being the closes, 30 miles, toro, 115 miles, and the bad boy about 45 miles. The only other dealer here is husky.....

The picture with the truck and trailer was cut with a Bad Boy 35 Cat 72" deck. The one with my house in the background was cut with a Bad Boy Lightning 26 hp liquid cooled Kaw and 60" deck.

Like I said, the 23 was too weak at lower rpm for my liking. Strictly because you have to throttle up to engage the pto which turns into premature clutch failure. Engage at idle or a little above and it would stall out. Aside from that, the power was good and the deck is top notch. That gearbox will go eventually but theoretically the short belts will last longer so you may actually wind up with less downtime---at a higher parts cost.

It needs to be worked in, everytime you engage the PTO drop the idle a little bit of the time. Ours engages with out dying at about 1/2 throttle now.

LDH is that the diesel you sold or did you just purchase that one? How did ya like it. I have some residential yards that i do bi weekly is it to big for some of them. They are almost to big for the old 48 i had. also you are going to kill those leaf springs in the back of you truck with that much tongue weight i woulda put the diesel over the trailer tires....

We are running a 23Hp diesel we just put it in this spring so it only has around 130hrs on it so far I can't complain, I def think that we would purchase another one. It has a very nice cut in the right conditions and it isn't that big of a machine so it doesn't get the customers excited, and it also has nice ground speed.
